World First Humanitarian Summit held at Istanbul, Turkey

                          The first-ever World Humanitarian Summit was held in Istanbul from 23 to 24th May since World War II. The summit was inaugurated by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and hosted by Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and attended by world leaders of UN member states, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The purpose of summit were – World leaders to be committed to improving the humanitarian responses to crises. preventing and ending conflict, respecting the rules of war, addressing forced displacement, achieving gender equality, responding to climate change, ending the need for aid,  and investing in humanity.
 
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced the launch of a new fund ‘Education Cannot Wait’ fund at the World Humanitarian Summit (WHS).
The three main goals of the summit are:

  1. Reaffirm our commitment to humanity and humanitarian principles.
  2. Initiate actions and commitments which enable countries and communities to prepare for and respond to crises and be more resilient to shocks.
  3. Share best practices which help save lives around the world, placing affected people at the centre of humanitarian action and alleviating suffering.
