Indian Wushu team wins 12 medals in International Tournament

The Indian wushu team has fetched a rich haul of one gold, four silver and seven bronze medals at the fifth International Pars Wushu Cup in Tehran. L. Budhachandra Singh won a gold medal in the 56 kg category, beating Masod Ansari of Iran in the final. MukeshChoudhry lost his final against Asian Games gold-medallist Mohsen Seifi, while Rajani Deori went down to Sajas Abbasi ofIran in the summit clash.

In the last edition, the Indian team won two silver and three bronze medals in the tournament at Zenjan, Iran. A total of Nineteen teams from 18 countries took part in this championship.

Wushu
  • Wushu was developed in China after 1949, in an effort to standardize the practice of traditional Chinese martial arts.
  • In contemporary times, wushu has become an international sport through the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), which holds the World Wushu Championships every two years.
  • The term wushu is Chinese for “martial arts”.
  • Competitive wushu is composed of two disciplines: taolu and sanda.
