1. Shaktikanta Das receives ‘Governor of the Year’ award at London’s Central Banking Awards 2023
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been conferred with the award of ‘Governor of the Year’ at London’s Central Banking Awards 2023.
While Das was formally given the title at an event held in the Britain capital on June 14, he was announced as the awardee in March. The other top prize – ‘Central Bank of the Year’ – was awarded to the National Bank of Ukraine.
The top honour was conferred upon him by ‘Central Banking’, a London-based organisation which definitively covers and analyses issues around the world’s central banks and financial regulators.
2. NTPC climbs up 52 positions to 433rd rank in Forbes’ “The Global 2000” List of top companies
NTPC Limited, India’s largest power generation company, has climbed 52 positions to secure the 433rd rank in Forbes’ “The Global 2000” List for 2023.
Rising from 485th rank in the list in the year 2022, the climb of 52 positions in just one year demonstrates NTPC’s emergence as a strong force in the global market.
It is evidence of the company’s steady expansion, sound financial condition, and persistent dedication to excellence.
“The Global 2000” List recognizes the world’s largest companies based on four key metrics: sales, profits, assets and market value.
Considering Indian companies, NTPC has climbed up one place to secure the 10th rank among the largest Indian companies in the 2023 List.
This ranking further solidifies NTPC’s status as a leading player in India’s corporate sector.
3. World Blood Donor Day is observed on June 14
World Blood Donor Day is indeed observed on June 14th every year. It is an international event dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of blood donation and expressing gratitude to voluntary blood donors worldwide.
This day serves as an opportunity to recognize the life-saving contribution of blood donors and to encourage more people to donate blood to meet the ongoing demand for safe blood and blood products.
The campaign also focuses on promoting the accessibility and affordability of blood transfusions for those in need.

4. Padma Awardees From Haryana To Get Rs 10,000 Monthly
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 for the Padma awardees from the state.
Besides the monthly pension, the chief minister has also announced a free travel facility in the ‘Volvo bus’ service of the state government for Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awardees from Haryana.
The government has formulated various welfare policies to make life easier for the people of the state.
5. Cormac McCarthy, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist no more, dies at 89
Cormac McCarthy, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of such acclaimed novels as “The Road” and “No Country for Old Men,”passed away. McCarthy was born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1933.
He began writing fiction in the early 1960s, and his first novel, “The Orchard Keeper,” was published in 1965. He went on to publish more than 20 novels, including “Blood Meridian,” “All the Pretty Horses,” and “Suttree.”
6. Child rights advocate Lalitha Natarajan wins 2023 Iqbal Masih Award
Chennai-based lawyer and activist Lalitha Natarajan has won US Department of Labor’s 2023 Iqbal Masih Award for the Elimination of Child Labour.
Natarajan was presented the award by Consul General Judith Ravin at a ceremony in the US Consulate General in Chennai on May 30.
As a leader in the fight to end exploitative child labor in southern India, Natarajan identifies child victims of trafficking, specifically bonded labor, assisting in their reintegration into society, the US consulate in Chennai.
In her role as a member of the Child Welfare Committee (North Zone), under the Department of Social Defence, Tamil Nadu, Natarajan ensures victims receive compensation under the Child Labor Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act .
Besides working on child labour issues, Lalitha also provides legal and counseling support to victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
7. Community Spirit Index: Indian City Is Ranked Second Most Unfriendly City In the World
In the recent ranking by the Community Spirit Index, 53 cities from different countries have been given ranks based on how friendly and unfriendly their residents are.
For this purpose, 6 metrics have been considered.
Toronto and Sydney are named the world’s top friendliest countries in the index while India’s capital New Delhi and Mumbai are among the most unfriendly cities in the world.
New York, Dublin, Copenhagen, Montreal and Manchester are also among the world’s top friendliest countries.
India’s financial capital Mumbai is ranked the second most unfriendliest city in the world by Preply which prepared the Community Spirit Index.

8. ‘Sanshodhak’ 4th warship of Indian Navy launched
The fourth ship of the Survey Vessels (Large) (SVL) Project, named ‘Sanshodhak’ meaning ‘Researcher’, was launched at Kattupalli, Chennai by L and T/ GRSE for the Indian Navy.
The Ship was launched to the chanting of invocation from Atharva Veda and the chief guest of the Launch Ceremony was VAdm Adhir Arora, Chief Hydrographer to Government of India.
9. Epson India signs Rashmika Mandanna as brand ambassador
Printer company Epson India has signed actor Rashmika Mandanna as its brand ambassador.
The actress will collaborate with the company to promote its products in a multi-media campaign for its ‘EcoTank’ printers this month.
In collaborating with the actress known for her performances across Kannada, Telugu, Hindi and Tamil cinema, the company said in a statement that it hopes to leverage her popularity to reach a wider audience across the country, particularly the younger generation.
10. Paterson Joseph won the RSL Christopher Bland Prize 2023
Actor-author Paterson Joseph has won the RSL Christopher Bland Prize 2023 for his debut novel ‘The Secret Diaries of Charles Ignatius Sancho’.
RSL Christopher Bland Prize is an annual award which honours a debut writer for their work of fiction or non-fiction, published at the age of 50 or over.
The award carries a cash prize of 10,000 Pound sterling or approx 10 lakh rupees
The Prize was launched in 2018 in memory of British Politician Sir Christopher Bland
11. India and UAE Target $100 Billion Non-Oil Trade by 2030; Set Up Councils to Facilitate FTA Implementation
India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have set an ambitious target to increase their non-oil bilateral trade from the current USD 48 billion to USD 100 billion by 2030.
The decision was reached during the first meeting of the Joint Committee of India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Both countries aim to double their non-petroleum trade in the next seven years, emphasizing the need to enhance trade cooperation beyond the oil sector.
