Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has received Parmod Mahajan Smriti Award in Pune.  Anupam Kher was recently appointed as Chairman of Film and Television Institute of India.

  1. Venezuela’s opposition awarded European Union’s Sakharov Prize for human rights

Venezuela’s democratic opposition was awarded the European Union’s human rights award and the European Parliament called for a peaceful transition to democracy in the troubled country.

The prize, named after Soviet physicist and dissident Andrei Sakharov, was awarded to Venezuela’s opposition-led National Assembly legislature, which the government has stripped of powers.

  1. Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar Assumes Charge as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff

Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar was assumed charge as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff. He succeeds Vice Admiral Karambir Singh who will take charge as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command.

Vice Admiral Kumar, alumni of the National Defence Academy, has had extensive operational tenures onboard frontline warships of the Indian Navy.

  1. Suresh Raina appointed as brand ambassador of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation

The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has roped in cricketer Suresh Raina as its brand ambassador to promote the civic body’s cleanliness drive in the city.

Raina, who is already one of the brand ambassadors of Swachh Bharat Mission, will now be spreading the message of cleanliness in the city.

  1. Giriraj Singh launches MSME Delayed Payment Portal – MSME Samadhaan

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Shri Giriraj Singh launched MSME Delayed Payment Portal – MSME Samadhaan (http://msefc.msme.gov.in), empowering micro and small entrepreneurs across the country to directly register their cases relating to delayed payments.

The Portal will give information about the pending payment of MSEs with individual CPSEs / Central Ministries, State Governments, etc.

The CEO of PSEs and the Secretary of the Ministries concerned will also be able to monitor the cases of delayed payment under their jurisdiction and issue necessary instructions to resolve the issues.

  1. PM Modi Inaugurated Bidar-Kalaburagi New Railway Line in Karnataka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is in Karnataka has offered prayers at the famous Lord Manjunatha Swami temple at Dharmasthala.

The prime minister symbolically launched the distribution of RuPay Cards for self-help group members who enrolled for Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana through the Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural development Project, a non-governmental organisation, during the programme.

  1. SIDBI Revamps Portal for Easy Credit Access

Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has revamped its portal www.udyamimitra.in with enhanced features to provide easy access to credit and hand-holding services for micro small medium enterprises (MSME).

The portal brings transparency and competition among lenders and removes the need to approach several banks individually.

  1. India, UAE second strategic talks held in Abu Dhabi

India and the United Arab Emirates have held the second round of their strategic dialogue in Abu Dhabi to deepen cooperation in a range of areas such as trade and investment.

The Indian delegation at the talks was led by Minister of State for External Affairs M.J. Akbar while the UAE side was headed by its Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar Gargash.

  1. Paolo Gentiloni first Italian PM to visit India in a decade

Italian prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni is set to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, opening a new chapter in bilateral relations during the first prime ministerial visit from Italy to India in a decade.

The visit marks the end of a chill in ties that set in 2012 after the killing of two Indian fishermen by a pair of Italian marines off the coast of Kerala.

  1. Saudi to allow women into sports stadiums from 2018

Saudi Arabia will allow women into three sports stadiums for the first time from next year, authorities said, in a landmark move that would open up the previously male-only venues to families.

The kingdom, which has some of the world’s tightest restrictions on women, has long barred women from sports arenas by strict rules on segregation of the sexes in public.

  1. Indian women’s hockey team beats China 4-1 in Asia Cup

Indian women dished out an all-round performance to stun China 4-1 and register their second consecutive victory at the women’s Asia Cup hockey tournament in Japan.

Goals from Gurjit Kaur (19th minute), Navjot Kaur (32nd), Neha Goyal (49th) and skipper Rani Rampal (58th) enabled the Indians to keep their winning momentum in Pool A at Kakamigahara Kawasaki Stadium.

  1. Indian junior hockey team wins bronze at Sultan of Johor Cup

Indian Junior Men’s Hockey team beat hosts Malaysia 4-0 in the Bronze medal match of the 7th Sultan of Johor Cup 2017 at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium.

Goals from Vishal Antil (15’, 25’), Vivek Prasad (11’) and Shilanand Lakra (21’) were enough for India to finish their tournament with the Bronze medal.

  1. Mithali Raj and Virat Kohli Tops ICC Ranking

On October 29, as the ICC Rankings were updated, both the Indian captains Virat Kohli and Mithali Raj came out on top.

While Kohli reclaimed the top spot with a career-best 889 points, Mithali moved up one place to occupy the first position with 753 points.

  1. Hamilton wins 4th F1 title after finishing 9th in Mexico

Lewis Hamilton won his fourth Formula One world championship at the Mexican Grand Prix to become the most successful British racing driver.

He now has one more title than Sir Jackie Stewart and achieved the remarkable feat after a tense and dramatic race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in which his lowest finish of the season – ninth place – was enough to seal the title.

  1. Federer wins career’s 95th title, 2nd most in men’s singles

The Swiss superstar Roger Federer won his eighth Basel title, battling back to defeat the surging Juan Martin del Potro, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3 to clinch his ATP World Tour-leading seventh title of the year.

  1. Former BJP minister Dr Digamber Singh passes away in Jaipur

Former state health minister Dr Digamber Singh, who was fighting a battle against a fatal aliment for the past three years, passed away.

He is a former health and industry minister; he was the vice-chairman of the state government’s Twenty Point Programme since June 2015.

  1. BCCI’s ex-head of Cricket Operations Sridhar dies aged 51

Former BCCI general manager MV Sridhar has died of a cardiac arrest. Originally a doctor, MV Sridhar was considered one of the best batsmen ever from Hyderabad never to have played for India. A stylish right-hander, MV Sridhar had scored a century on debut and 366 against Andhra in 1993-94, then a record.

Sridhar had resigned from the BCCI post this September after he had reportedly failed to report a few conflict of interests.
