1. Tata Housing tied-up with Facebook to sell its affordable homes online

Real estate developer Tata Housing has partnered with social networking firm Facebook to sell its affordable homes online. The initiative is in line with the company’s target to generate over 30% of its overall sales online in the next five years. Through this new campaign titled ‘Social sell’ on Facebook, the company plans to sell around 250 units of its new five-acre residential project in Goa called Codename —Goa Paradise.

2. 4th International Tourism Mart inaugurated in Gangtok, Sikkim

The 4th International Tourism Mart (ITM) has been inaugurated in Gangtok, Sikkim. The ITM has been organized by the Union Ministry of Tourism in association with the North Eastern States and the state of West Bengal. It has been inaugurated by the Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge), Culture (Independent Charge) and Civil Aviation, Dr. Mahesh Sharma, along with the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Pawan Chamling.

3. PM Narendra Modi unveils bust of Dr Abdul Kalam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paying tribute to late President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam on his 84th birth anniversary,hailing him as a ‘rashtra ratna’. Narendra Modi highlighted not just Dr Kalam’s personal rise from humble roots but also his contribution to the organisations that he led to great heights.  PM Modi attended the birth anniversary celebrations of Kalam at the DRDO headquarters (New Delhi) where he unveiled his bust as well.

4. Zaheer Khan set to retire from international cricket

India seamer Zaheer Khan has announced his retirement from international and first-class cricket. He will, however, continue to play in the IPL for one more season. In 92 Test matches, Zaheer has taken 311 wickets and is the fourth-highest wicket-taker amongst Indians in the longer version, after Anil Kumble (619), Kapil Dev (434) and Harbhajan Singh (417). He picked 282 wickets in 200 ODIs he played, besides 17 scalps from as many Twenty20s.

5. Australia clears way for Adani Group’s $7 billion coal and rail project

The Australian government has reissued an environmental permit for construction of one of the world’s biggest coal mines to Adani Enterprises, after clearing concerns about two rare outback species. The decision by Environment Minister Greg Hunt removes one hurdle for Adani to proceed with the stalled A$10 billion ($7 billion) project in the undeveloped Galilee Basin that could generate billions of dollars in export revenue for Australia.

6. 7 out of every 10 Indians are vitamin deficient

Metropolis Healthcare – a multinational chain of diagnostic centres conducted an inclusive study on Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin B9 (Folic Acid) to observe the deficiency and sufficiency of Vitamins within the inhabitants across India. Metropolis conducted a comprehensive pan India study on 14,96,683 samples over a period of 3 years. The increasing trend of Vitamin deficiency is seen in all the age groups. Among the samples tested across 4 zones viz, North, South, East, West 75% of population has shown alarming levels of deficiency.

7. Government mulls Rs 32,800 crore greenfield expressway between Delhi, Jaipur

Government is considering a proposal to build a new expressway connecting the national capital and the Pink City at an estimated cost of Rs 32,800 crore. About 2,800 hectares of land will have to be acquired for the project, Nitin Gadkari said addressing a press conference here after reviewing the progress of Delhi-Jaipur Highway. The cost of the land acquisition will be Rs 18,000 crore.

8. ICGS Anmol fast patrol vessel commissioned

Fast patrol vessel ‘ICGS Anmol’ has been commissioned by the Indian Coast Guard. ‘ICGS Anmol’ is the 13th in the series of 20 fast patrol vessels being designed and built by the Cochin Shipyard. The 50-metre-long ship is capable of achieving speeds in excess of 35 knots and has an endurance of 1,500 nautical miles with economical speed of 13 knots. It is equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry and advanced navigational and communication equipment and 40/60 Bofors anti-aircraft gun as the main armament.
