1. March 22: Bihar Diwas

Bihar is celebrating its 109th foundation day on March 22, 2021. The foundation day is known as the “Bihar Day”. The day is regarded as a public holiday across the state.

The day is observed every year on March 22. It marks the formation of state of Bihar. On this day, Bihar was carved out of the Bengal by the British government in the year 1912. The Day was started being celebrated in the tenure of Nitish Kumar.

2. March 22: World Water Day 2021

The World Water Day being observed on March 22, 2021. It is a United Nations designated day. The day is being observed under the United Nations theme- “Valuing Water” which focuses on “How we can better protect this vital resource”.

3. March 21: International Day of Forests

The International Day of Forests is observed by the United Nations on March 21. The day commemorate the green cover across the world highlighting its importance.

The day was observed under the theme– “Forest restoration: a path to recovery and well-being”.

4. India and France working on third joint space mission: ISRO Chief

The Chairman of ISRO K. Sivan has informed that India and France have been working on their third Joint satellite Mission, even as the bilateral space collaboration has been entering into multiple domains, including the human space flight programme.

5. Dutch PM Mark Rutte wins fourth consecutive term, becomes EU’s third-longest serving leader

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte claimed an overwhelming victory in the nation’s General Elections held on March 17, 2021. The elections were conducted over a course of three days amid a nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19.

6. India’s Singhraj wins gold in 2021 World Shooting Para Sport World Cup

Singhraj, the Indian para-athlete has won a gold medal in the 2021 Para Shooting World Cup at Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates on March 21, 2021. Singhraj defeated Uzbekistan’s Server Ibragimov by 2.8 points and got the top honour in the P1- Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 final.

7. Bill Nelson to be nominated as NASA administrator

US President Joe Biden announced on March 19, 2021 that he intends to nominate Bill Nelson to serve as the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Bill Nelson is a former astronaut who served as a US Senator from Florida from 2001 to 2019. He has spent almost four decades serving the public office.

8. India slips to 56th rank in Global Home Price Index

India has moved down 13 spots in the latest global home price index to finish last at 56th rank in the quarter ending December 2020. Against its 43rd rank a year ago, India saw a decline of 3.6% year-on-year (YoY) in home prices, leading to the drop in global position, showed Knight Frank’s Global House Price Index.

9. Bihar becomes first state to have own ethanol policy

Bihar Cabinet has approved the Ethanol Production Promotion Policy, 2021, becoming the 1st Indian State to have an ethanol promotion policy. The policy allows the extraction of ethanol, which was restricted to sugarcane, from surplus quantities of maize as well.

10. World Poetry Day: 21 March

World Poetry Day is celebrated on 21 March every year to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world. The Day celebrates one of humanity’s most treasured forms of cultural and linguistic expression and identity.

11. World Down Syndrome Day: 21 March

The World Down Syndrome Day is observed globally on 21 March each year, to raise public awareness for the rights, inclusion and well being of people with Down syndrome. This day was first observed in the United Nation in the year 2012.

This year, the theme for World Down Syndrome Day is “We Decide.”

12. International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on 21 March to remind people about the negative consequences of racial discrimination.

This year theme is “Youth standing up against racism”.

13. 67th National Film Awards announced

Sikkim wins award for Most Film Friendly State. An Engineered Dream wins Best Film in Non-Feature Film category, Marakkar-Arabikkadalinte-Simham bags Best Feature Film award.

Maharshi wins Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment; Anandi Gopal takes the award for Best Film on Social Issues. B Praak wins Best Male Playback Singer for ‘Teri Mitti’ from the movie Kesari; Oththa Seruppu Size-7 bags Special Jury Award.

Dhanush and Manoj Bajpayee share the award for Best Actor. Kangana Ranaut wins Best Actress award for Manikarnika-The Queen of Jhansi and Panga.

12. India ranks 139th in World Happiness Report 2021

India has been placed at 139th position out of 149 countries in the UN World Happiness Report 2021 released. In 2019, India was ranked 140th. The World Happiness Report 2021 has been topped by Finland, for the fourth consecutive year. The 2021 report is the ninth World Happiness Report and focuses on the effects of COVID-19 and how people all over the world have fared.
