August 12 – International Youth Day

The International Youth Day is celebrated on August 12 every year since 2000.  The United Nations declared August 12 as International Youth Day via resolution 54/120.

Recommendation: The recommendations were made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth (Lisbon, 8-12 August 1998) that 12 August should be declared International Youth Day.

Purpose : The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth.  During IYD, concerts, workshops, cultural events, and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organizations take place around the world.

Slogan For 2015 : Youth and Civic Engagement.

Campaign: As part of its celebrations for International Youth Day, the Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development, led by the co-chairs, DESA and UNDP, is running an online campaign in the lead up to International Youth Day 12 August 2015.

Importance of Campaign

It focuses on measures to strengthen national capacities in the field of youth.

It increases the quality and quantity of opportunities available to young people for full, effective and constructive participation in society.
