1. World UFO day observed on 2 July 2019

World UFO day observed on 2 July 2019. World UFO Day is observed on July 2 every year. The main objective of celebrating this day is to encourage the government to reveal their flies on UFO sightings and related information.

About World UFO Day

  • It is a day awareness day for people to gather together and watch the skies for unidentified flying objects.
  • The day is celebrated by some on June 24 and July 2.

2. Dr. Krishna Saksena’s book ‘Whispers of Time’ launched by Smriti Irani in New Delhi

Dr. Krishna Saksena’s book ‘Whispers of Time’ launched by Smriti Irani in New Delhi. Minister of Textiles and Minister of Women and Child Development, Smriti Zubin Irani launched new book “Whispers of Time”. It is written by Dr. Krishna Saksena (91) at the India International Centre in New Delhi. The book was published by Prabhat Prakashan.

It is the ninth book of Saksena . She tells about her experiences and observations in her long life of ninety years. Saksena, a professor at Delhi University, the first woman candidate from Uttar Pradesh to get a Ph.D. degree in English Literature in 1955.

3. 34th Sailing Championship inaugurated in Telangana

The 34th edition of Hyderabad Sailing Week National Ranking Multi-Class Championship 2019 was inaugurated by Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, ESL Narasimhan in Hyderabad, Telangana.

The YAI Multi-Class (Ranking) Sailing Championship is one of oldest sailing competitions in India. It is held every year in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad is taking place at Hussain Sagar Lake.

4. Manoj Kumar Nambiar elected Chairman of MFIN

Manoj Kumar Nambiar Managing Director of Arohan Financial Services has been elected as new chairman of Microfinance Institutions Network (MFIN). He was elected at 6th annual general meeting of MFIN.

Nambiar is also a director on boards of IntelleCash Microfinance Network Company. He will be replacing Ujjivan Financial Services CEO and MD Samit Ghosh.

5. Kaziranga National Park: Special Rhino Protection Force deployed

An 82-member Special Rhino Protection Force which is trained to combat poachers and understand animal behaviour was recently deployed in Kaziranga National Park (KNP).

The process of setting up special force was initiated in 2015. In July 2018 members recruited were given appointment letter after which they were trained at Forest Guard School in eastern Assam’s Makum. All recruits also underwent weapons training at 9th Assam Police Battalion in Nagaon district of Assam.

6. Cabinet approves Code on Wages bill

The Union Cabinet Wednesday approved the Code on Wages Bill which seeks to subsume existing laws related to workers remuneration and enable the Centre to fix minimum wages for the entire country.

The Code on Wages is one of the four codes that would subsume 44 labour laws with certain amendments to improve the ease of doing business and attract investment for spurring growth. The four codes will deal with wages, social security, industrial safety and welfare, and industrial relations.

7. Industrialist BK Birla, grandfather of Kumar Birla, dies at 98

Industrialist Basant Kumar Birla, the youngest son of Ghanshyam Das Birla and the grandfather of Kumar Mangalam Birla, passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday aged 98. He was the Chairman of BK Birla Group, which includes Century Textiles and Kesoram Industries. Birla is survived by his daughters Jayshree Mohta and Manjushree Khaitan. His son Aditya Vikram Birla died in 1995.

8. Vaibhav Yadav claims WBC Asia title with a knockout win

Indian pro boxer Vaibhav Yadav became the WBC Asia silver welterweight champion after defeating Thailand’s Fahpetch Singmanassak in Patayya on Sunday.

The 24-year-old Delhi-based boxer secured the title by claiming a third-round knockout win over local favourite Singmanassak. Yadav, who is nicknamed ‘Ahir Boxer’, is the cousin of Commonwealth Games gold medallist boxer Vikas Krishan.

9. Rohit, Rahul record India’s highest opening partnership in World Cup

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul registered the highest ever opening partnership for India in a World Cup match, scoring 180 runs for the first wicket against Bangladesh in the 2019 World Cup on Tuesday. The previous record was registered by Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, who shared a 174-run stand against Ireland in the 2015 World Cup.

10. Centre to raise Health Services Expenditure to 2.5% of GDP by 2025

Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan while addressing a query during Question Hour in Rajya Sabha announced that Government has set a target to raise health services expenditure to 2.5% of country’s GDP (Gross domestic product) by 2025. He also highlighted that public expenditure on health services has increased continuously over the years and continues to increase.

11. High Powered Committee for ‘Transformation of Agriculture’ constituted

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has constituted a High-powered Committee of Chief Ministers (CMs) for ‘Transformation of Indian Agriculture’.

HPC was set up subsequent to the deliberations of Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog and in keeping with promise of Centre government for Agricullture reforms, rural development, water conservation and its proper.

12. UGC launches STRIDE scheme to boost research culture in universities

University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched STRIDE scheme to boost research culture and innovation in colleges and universities. STRIDE stands for Scheme for Trans-disciplinary Research for India’s Developing Economy.
