  1. India ranks 2nd on global business optimism index

India improved its ranking by one spot in a global index of business optimism, with policy reforms and Goods and Services tax (GST) expected to become a reality soon, says a survey. According to the latest Grant Thornton International Business Report, India was ranked second on the optimism index during the third quarter.

  1. Dubai International Film Festival to honour Rekha with a Lifetime Achievement Award

Indian actor Rekha will be honoured by the upcoming Dubai International Film Festival with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The festival runs from December 7 to 14, and is now arguably the leading cinematic event in the region with both Doha and Abu Dhabi having shut shop some time ago.

  1. Army launches ‘School Chalo’ operation in South Kashmir

After ‘Operation Calm down’ in South Kashmir, Army is now focusing on another operation — ‘School Chalo’,under which it identifies areas and provides students with free coaching and make them participate in extra-curricular activities. The army had launched Operation ‘Calm Down’ in August- September to clear different parts of the Valley of militants and protesters using minimum force.

  1. NDTV India ordered to be taken off air for 24 hours
  • An Inter-Ministerial Committee of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry in the first week of November 2016 asked for one-day ban on a leading Hindi News Channel, NDTV India from 12.01 A.M. of 9 November to 12.01 A.M. of 10 November 2016.
  • The channel is facing the possibility of a complete blackout for 24 hours for revealing strategically-sensitive information during its coverage of the anti-terror operations at the Pathankot airbase in January 2016.
  • The telecast under scanner was aired on 2 January 2016 when Indian military forces were preparing their counter attack strategy at the Pathankot airbase.

  1. India, Japan NSAs hold bilateral consultations in New Delhi

National Security Advisors of India and Japan held bilateral consultations in New Delhi. During their discussions, Mr. Shotaro Yachi and Mr Ajit Doval expressed satisfaction at the implementation of important understandings reached during the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to India in December last year.

  1. Google ties up with ASI for virtual tour of monuments

Google has tied up with Archaelogical Survey of India (ASI) for 360 degree virtual tour of 280-odd monuments across the country. American Multinational Company Google tied up with Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to provide 360 degree virtual tour of 280-odd monuments across the country. Some of the famous monuments include Taj Mahal, Victoria Memorial and Hampi.

  1. 6th Indo-Bangla joint military exercise SAMPRITI commences

 An Indian Army contingent reached Dhaka to participate in the India-Bangladesh joint military exercise ‘Sampriti-2016′. Sixth in the series of joint exercises, this edition would be conducted at Bangabandhu Senanibas (BBS) at Tangail between November 5 and November 18 and would focus on counter terrorism and counter insurgency operations in semi mountainous and jungle terrain.

  1. Kvitova defeats Svitolina to win WTA Elite Trophy

Two-time Wimbledon champion PetraKvitova of the Czech Republic defeated Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in straight sets to take the title at the $2.2-million WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai. Number three seed Kvitova dispatched the fourth seed 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and ten minutes, a month after she marked a return to form by winning the Wuhan Open.

  1. Ireland rugby team beat New Zealand for 1st time in 111 yrs

Ireland’s national rugby team registered their first-ever win over New Zealand in 111 years after they defeated the All Blacks 40-29 at Chicago’s Soldier Field. With the win, Ireland also ended New Zealand’s world record of consecutive victories at 18 that began in August 2015. The two teams will next face each other in Dublin on 19th November.

OBITUARY

  1. Sri Lankan singer Pandit Amaradeva passes away

Legendary Sri Lankan singer and composer Pandit Amaradeva, recipient of many international honours, including Padma Shri, for his contribution to music, died after heart attack. He was 88. The musician has been the recipient of several awards, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award (2001), Padma Shri (2002) and Sri Lankan President’s Award of Kala Keerthi (1986) and Deshamanya Award (1998).
