India is among the few bright spots in the global economy : IMF

The IMF has announced that India is among the few bright spots in the global economy. The announcement was made by IMF Chief Christine Lagarde at the meeting of G20 Finance Minister and Central Bank Governors. Among emerging economies if there is any growth, that is in India. India is among the few bright spots in the global economy.

India considers extending maternity leave to boost child nutrition

The GOI is considering extending maternity leave to 24 weeks from 12 weeks. The Central Government is considering about extending as it would encourage more women to breastfeed and help reduce high rates of child malnutrition in the country. The proposal, if approved, would give working women in all sectors i.e. public, private and even the informal sector such as domestic workers.



TRAI Proposes Compensation to Consumers

Telecom regulator TRAI has proposed compensation to consumers for call drops. Department of Telecom (DoT) had earlier asked TRAI to seek information from telecom operators about their infrastructure and capacity for providing effective services. rime Minister Narendra Modi had recently voiced serious concern over the menace of call drops.

Government of India announces One Rank One Pension

Government of India has announced the acceptance of the long-pending demand for ‘One Rank One Pension’. The ex-servicemen who have been on agitation rejected the key details of the decision and said their 84-day long stir will continue.

  • As per the announcement there would be revision of pension every five years as against two years demanded by the ex-servicemen.
  • Pension will be re-fixed for all pensioners retiring in the same rank and with the same length of service as the average of minimum and maximum pension in 2013.
  • The Ex-servicemen who have taken voluntary retirement would not be eligible for the scheme.
  • The government is also setting up a one-member judicial committee to work out details of implementation of the OROP which will file a report in six months.
  • Arrears will be paid in four half-yearly installments. All widows, including war widows, will be paid arrears in one installment.
Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami died after killing 10 militants

Indian Army has paid last tributes to Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami, a special forces commando who was a part of three back-to-back operations which killed 10 militants in Jammu and Kashmir. Goswami created a unique history of valour and dedication. He had eliminated 10 militants in a short span of 11 days before making the supreme sacrifice while battling militants in Kupwara, Kashmir.

GOI to develop Bodh Gaya as spiritual capital

Describing Bodh Gaya as the “land of enlightenment”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the central government would develop the site as the spiritual capital for it to serve as a civilizational bond between India and the Buddhist world.

G20, OECD announce new corporate governance code

The G20 and OECD has announced new corporate governance principles for listed companies and regulators in all member countries to safeguard minority shareholders’ interests and promote capital market as a key platform to raise funds. Regulators and policymakers across the world, which includes India’s SEBI, will update their regulations for the listed firms in line with the new code. The new code calls for enhanced cross-border cooperation among regulators, including through bilateral and multilateral arrangements for exchange of information.

Bollywood music composer-director Aadesh Shrivastava Passed away

Bollywood music composer-director Aadesh Shrivastava passed away in Mumbai due to cancer. Shrivastava rose to fame with his musical compositions for films like “Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham”, “Rajneeti”, “Chalte Chalte”, “Baabul” and “Baghban” among others.

Thousands of Migrants Pour Into Austria, Germany After Hungary Trek

Thousands of migrants poured into Austria and Germany, as escalating tensions in Hungary forced the two countries to open their borders to one of the largest waves of people since World War II. The Austrian police said more than 4,000 people had crossed over its border from neighboring Hungary, while German officials said they expect as many as 10,000 migrants to arrive in the country by the end of the day.
