Punjab Government wins award for achievement in rooftop solar power output

Rooftop solar power output!! Punjab Government has won first award in the category of highest capacity addition in grid connected solar rooftop power in the country during the financial year 2014-15. It is one of 5 awards won by Punjab New and Renewable Energy Department (PNRED) for outstanding performance in the various fields of Renewable Energy and Power Generation.

Other Domains where Punjab Excels

  1. Highest capacity addition of off-grid waste to energy plants.
  2. Deployment of highest cumulative numbers of Solar Water Pumps.
  3. Achieving highest cumulative grid connected solar rooftop power capacity.
  4. Achieving highest capacity addition in grid connected solar power in the country.

These awards were conferred to the Punjab state by Union Minister of State for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal at a function held in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Union Territory of Chandigarh bagged the second spot in the highest capacity addition in grid connected solar rooftop power in the country category.

MUST KNOW
1.The power output of a rooftop solar system is dependent on several factors such as- Location Orientation of the roof Panel efficiency Ambient temperature.

2.The average solar panel output ranges from about 175 W to about 235 W, with an exceptionally powerful solar panel measuring 315 W. Among the top ten manufacturers, the average wattage of a panel is about 200 W.*

3.Installers often offer SunPower panels as an option for roofs with less space. SunPower panels are more expensive, but they’re also much more efficient, meaning they can provide more power in a smaller area.

4.Efficiency of a solar panel is calculated with respect to the size of the panel, and therefore the efficiency percentage is relevant only to the area occupied by the panel. If two panels have the same capacity rating (Wp), their power output is the same even if their efficiency are different.
