11. Ministry of HUPA commissions study on testing of new housing technologies

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has commissioned a study on testing of new construction technologies for popularizing them. The main objective is promoting new housing technologies in India. The Ministry has approved a proposal made by the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and agreed to support the study with financial assistance of Rs.31.34 lakhs. The Ministry’s initiative comes in the context of implementation of Housing for All Mission launched in June this year under which 2 crore new houses are to be built in urban areas for Economically Weaker Sections and Low Income Groups.

12. MP Government announces 33 percent quota for women in government jobs

The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to provide 33 percent reservation to women in government jobs. This was decided during a cabinet meeting presided over by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The permission would be sought from the Election Commission as by-polls are slated to be held in two places in the state next month.

13. Nepal inks MoU with China to ease fuel crisis

Nepal signed its first ever fuel agreement with China to supply petroleum to ease a crippling shortage after protests blocked imports from sole supplier India. Scores of trucks have been stranded at a key India-Nepal border checkpoint for more than a month, cutting off vital supplies and forcing fuel rationing across the landlocked Himalayan nation.

The shortages have led to overnight queues at gas stations in the Nepalese capital and prompted the government to turn to its northern neighbour for help, ending a decades-long monopoly by India as tensions deepen between New Delhi and Kathmandu.

14. UNGA-members voted a resolution condemning US embargo on Cuba

The United Nations General Assembly has almost unanimously voted to condemn the US embargo on Cuba, in the first such resolution since US-Cuban diplomatic ties were restored earlier this year. The motion won more support than it has done in the past, with 191 members of the 193-member body voting in favour. Only the US and Israel opposed the resolution, which is non-binding. The UN General Assembly (UNGA) has voted in favour of the resolution condemning the US embargo on Cuba for every year since 1992.

15. Hockey India signed three years partnership with Sports Authority of India

Hockey India (HI) has signed a three-year partnership with Sports Authority of India (SAI), extending its commitment towards helping hockey regain its position as the country’s top sport. This would mark the beginning of a new era for Indian hockey, enabling SAI to invest in innovative programmes, developing India as a world class hockey nation.

The three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) acknowledges hockey as a medium for the development and promotion of values in the youth of the nation. It also states that SAI is desirous of promoting hockey as a tool for youth development and excellence in sports.

16. $10 billion concessional credit to Africa :PM

Seeking to boost ties with Africa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India will offer concessional credit of $10 billion over the next five years. “This will be in addition to our ongoing credit programme,” he said. “We will also offer a grant assistance of $600 million. This will include an India-Africa Development Fund of $100 million and an India-Africa Health Fund of $10 million,” Modi said.

17. J&K: Top LeT commander shot dead

Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant Abu Qasim, the mastermind of the Udhampur attack on a BSF bus on August 5, has been killed in a gunfight in J&K. Security forces laid an ambush in the area following specific information about the movements of the LeT commander. A resident of Pakistan, Abu Qasim was the mastermind of the Udhampur attack in which two BSF personnel were killed and 11 others injured

18. National Tribal Advisory Council set up

Government has decided to set up National Tribal Advisory Council under chairmanship of the Prime Minister for real time monitoring of various tribal development programmes and schemes in the country.  A National Tribal Advisory Council under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be set up for real time monitoring of the ongoing programmes and schemes aimed at welfare of tribal people and development of tribal areas. The Council will meet once or twice a year.

19. SpiceJet COO Sanjiv Kapoor quits

In the biggest management rejig since SpiceJet co-founder Ajay Singh re-entered the airline this February, the low cost carrier’s (LCC) chief operating officer (COO) Sanjiv Kapoor has reportedly quit the airline.  When SpiceJet was owned by Sun Group, Sanjiv Kapoor was one of the key people who made the LCC famous for its back-to-back sales.

20. Alok Shekhar appointed India’s representative to ICAO

Senior IAS officer Alok Shekhar has been appointed as India’s representative in the council of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), a United Nations body.

The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shekhar, a 1994 batch IAS officer of Punjab cadre, for the post of representative of India in the council of ICAO in Montreal, Canada, for three years. Shekhar will be replacing Prashant Narain Sukul, a 1992 batch officer of Indian Defence Accounts Service.

21. Amit wins silver in IPC Athletics Worlds

Indian para-athlete Amit Kumar bagged a silver in men’s club throw F51 event to give the country its second medal in the IPC Athletics World Championships, Doha. Amit clinched silver with an effort of 25.44m, behind Serbia’s Zeljko Dimitrijevic who won gold in a championship record of 26.29m. Another Serbian, Milos Mitic bagged the bronze in 25.40m.
