Durban to host 2022 Commonwealth Games

The South African city Durban has been selected as the host city for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The decision has been made at the Commonwealth Games Federation’s (CGF) general assembly in New Zealand. The coastal city was the only bidder for the multi-sports event after the Canadian city of Edmonton withdrew from contention in February, citing falling oil prices.

the Games would be held from 18 to 30 July, opening on the birth date of the late South African President and anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela. It will be the 22nd staging of the event. The Commonwealth Games are held every four years and feature athletes from more than 50 countries, mostly former British colonies.
