Covering Railway Stations Under CCTV Surveillance

Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) were provided at 344 railway stations over Indian Railways. Railways have further planned to install Video Surveillance System (VSS) at 1000 stations under Nirbhaya Fund.

Total estimated cost of VSS chargeable to Nirbhaya Fund stands at Rs – 500 crore. Installation of CCTV cameras also forms part of Integrated Security System (ISS) and total estimated cost at 202 stations stands at Rs 252.76 crore.

  • The facility would be extended to 1000 stations, including Category ā€˜Cā€™ suburban stations. Strengthening and upgradation of security infrastructure is an ongoing process.
  • Strengthening of CCTV surveillance system at the major stations is being done as per requirement. Round the clock surveillance is being kept through CCTV cameras for the passenger safety.
  • Along with it, New Delhi ā€“ Howrah Rajdhani Express is provided with Wi-Fi facility. This train travels over Eastern, East Central, North Central and Northern Railway covering the States of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
  • A pilot project to provide Wi-Fi facility in 6 rakes of Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains has been undertaken to explore cost effective solution. All Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto category trains will be provided with Wi-Fi facility after identifying suitable cost effective technology.
