Chandigarh airport terminal building wins IBC award

The new integrated terminal building of Chandigarh International Airports Limited (CHIAL) has bagged the 2014-15 India Building Congress (IBC) Award for Excellence in Built Environment.

  • CHIAL, a joint venture company that runs the airport, has been conferred with IBC award and trophy for excellence in built environment in infrastructure projects for “New Integrated Terminal Building“, Airports Authority of India (AAI).
  • The integrated terminal was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September last year.
  • The award was presented by Union Urban Development, and Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu at the 21st annual convention inaugural function held recently.
  • AAI General Manager for engineering projects D Kamra received the award on behalf of national airports operator.
  • The new terminal building at the Chandigarh International Airport has been constructed with an investment of Rs 939 crore.  The terminal is being operated and maintained by CHIAL, which is a joint venture firm between AAI and the governments of Punjab and Haryana.
  • AAI holds 51 per cent stake in CHIAL while Punjab and Haryana have 24.5 per cent equity each.
  • Indian Building Congress’ vision is to build a living environment which is sustainable, affordable, eco-friendly, energy-efficient, cost competitive as well as technology, among others.
