Pranav Soorma won Gold in Khelo India Para Games 2023

Introduction:

An athlete from Haryana named Pranav Soorma won gold in the men’s club throw event, improving upon his mark from the Asia Para Games.

The athlete from Haryana had a highlight at Wednesday’s Khelo India Para Games 2023, throwing a distance of 33.54 meters at the JLN Stadium. With a dive of 30.01 meters, Soorma won the gold in Hangzhou. At 31.09 meters, Dharambir of India held the Asian record.

Pranav Soorma’s extraordinary journey into para sports is a testament to his unwavering resolve and perseverance. He was paralyzed and suffered a spinal cord damage in a devastating accident when he was 16 years old. He bravely decided to become a professional athlete in 2018.

On the same day that Soorma took home the gold, Ram Ratan Singh of Uttar Pradesh took home the silver with a throw of 25.43 meters, while Alexander M of Tamil Nadu took home the bronze with a throw of 25.28 meters.

At the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, the shooting medal rounds commenced. Winner of the 10m air rifle event with an overall score of 618.3 was veteran athlete Vijay Singh Kuntal of Rajasthan, competing in the SH2 category.

Taking second and third place, respectively, were Dalbir Singh of Punjab (with 604.3 points) and Satya Janaradhana Sridhar Rayala of Telangana (with 607.5 points), who had previously won medals for the Border Security Force in Para Nationals.

Wednesday saw the determination of three further golds.

Mona Agarwal of Rajasthan won first place in the 10m air rifle standing women’s SH-1 event with a score of 619.7, while Simran Sharma of Haryana took second place with 606.5. The bronze medal went to Aakansha of Uttar Pradesh, who scored 604.6.

With a score of 243.8, Swaroop Unhalkar of Maharashtra emerged as the winner in the 10M air rifle for SH1 category. With a score of 242.9, Deepak Saini of Haryana took home the silver medal, and Ishank Ahuja of the same state took home the bronze.

With a total score of 233.1, Rubina Francis of Madhya Pradesh won the gold medal in the women’s 10m air pistol standing SH-1 event. Sumedha Pathak of Uttar Pradesh won the silver medal with a total score of 229.2. With a total score of 207.8, Bhakti Sharma of Delhi won the bronze medal.

Strength training

With a lift of 88 kg, Seema Rani of Punjab won gold in the Para powerlifting 61 kg elite division. Silver went to Zainab Khatoon of Uttar Pradesh (weighing 80 kg) and bronze went to M. Nathiya of Tamil Nadu (weighing 72 kg).

Gadadhar Sahu of Odisha put on a spectacular performance in the top 59kg division, lifting a total of 140 kgs to claim the gold medal. The silver medal went to Joby Mathew of Kerala, who lifted 137 kg, and the bronze went to Gulfam Ahmed of Delhi, who lifted 134 kg.

Suman Devi (Haryana) showed her talent in the elite 55kg class with poise and calm, lifting 87 kg. In this division, she excelled to the point where Raj Kumari of Delhi took home the silver medal (70 kg) and Gomathi of Tamil Nadu the bronze (66 kg).
