Amputee mountaineer Arunima Sinha scales Mount Aconcagua in Argentina

Arunima Sinha, the amputee mountaineer who set a record by conquering Mount Everest, has added another feather to her cap by conquering Mount Aconcagua in Argentina. Arunima, in a statement, said she started her mission on the morning of December 12 and hoisted the Indian tricolour on December 25 at the summit. Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside Asia, at 6,960.8 metres.

Arunima lost her left leg in a train accident in 2011 and she surprised the world by scaling Mt. Everest on May 21, 2013.

About Arunima Singh

  • Born in 1988 in Uttar Pradesh, Arunima Sinha became the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest in 2013. She is also the first Indian amputee to climb Mount Everest
  • A former national volleyball and football player, Arunima had lost her left leg in a train accident in 2011 after she was pushed out of a running train by robbers
  • Her aim was to climb all the continents’ highest peaks and put the national flag of India there. The other four summits include: Everest in Asia, Kilimanjaro in Africa, Elbrus in Europe and Kosciuszko in Australia
  • Arunima has also written a book titled ‘Born again on the mountain’, launched by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, in December 2014
  • In 2015, she was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India.
