Tata Sons Private Limited used its Right to Match card wisely and was able to keep the prestigious title support of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for another five seasons, from 2024 to 2028.

This happened after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) put out an Invitation to Tender (ITT) for Title Sponsor Rights at the end of December 2023.

Tata Group Gets IPL Title Sponsorship: Background

For the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Tata Group took over as the IPL title backer from the Chinese phone company Vivo. They contributed INR 365 crore each season.

With their choice to keep the title sponsorship, the group is set for a long and well-known relationship with the most lucrative cricket league in the world.

Details on the tender process

  • In the ITT paper, BCCI explained the tender process, including who could apply and how to submit the bid.
  • Those who were interested had to stick to the brand categories listed in Annexure B, which kept some groups from buying.
  • Tata Sons Private Limited, who were already the title sponsors, used their “Right to Match” in answer to Aditya Birla Group’s offer, which secured the sponsorship for another five years.
