Singapore appoints Indian-origin diplomat S Chandra Das as envoy to Sri Lanka

The foreign Ministry of Singapore has announced that it has appointed Indian-origin businessman S Chandra Das as its non-Resident High Commissioner to Sri Lanka. He served as Singapore’s Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey, resident in Singapore, from 2006 to 2015. He had also previously served as Singapore’s Trade Representative from 1970 to 1972 in the USSR, the former Soviet Union.

Das was an MP from 1980 to 1996. He is presently the Managing Director of NUR Investment & Trading private limited of Singapore as well as a director of a number of other companies. Das is married to Rosie Pillai and they have two children.

Apart from Das, the Foreign Ministry has also announced the appointment of Chua Thai Keong as Singapore’s High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa.
