Hollywood Actor John P Connell died

John P Connell, best known as the star of the daytime drama “Young Dr. Malone,” has died in Woodland Hills. He was 91. Born in Philadelphia, Connell received five battle stars and a Purple Heart during World War II. He was a radio operator and waist gunner aboard a B-24 crew which completed 43 bombing missions, reported Variety. He broke into show business on Broadway in “Time Limit” and “Uncle Willie” and with the national company of “Picnic.”

In addition to appearing on “The Edge of Night,” “Love of Life,” “The Secret Storm” and “Dark Shadows,” he played Dr. David Malone, the son of Dr. Jerry Malone (William Prince), on “Young Dr. Malone” from 1958 to 1963.

Connell also was a councilor of the Episcopal Actors Guild and founded the Shakespeare-reading group the Come Hither Players. He served for 13 years on SAG’s National Board of Directors and edited the Guild’s Reel magazine.

Mr. Connell is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mila; a son, John; a daughter, Kathy Connell; and a granddaughter.
