Facebook now used by half of world’s online users

Half of the worlds estimated online users log on to Facebook at least once a month, the social networking site has claimed.

The higher number of users means increased advertising revenues for the company. For the second quarter, Facebook reported total revenues $4.04bn (£2.59bn, €3.66bn), up 39% from the previous year. Mobile advertising revenue represented about 76% of advertising revenue for the second quarter, up from about 62% in the second quarter of 2014.According to the Facebook, the number of people who use Facebook at least once in a month grew 13 per cent to 1.49 billion in the 3 months to the end of June this year. The number is equal to half of the estimated three billion people who use the internet globally.
