1. Puma appoints Karthik Balagopalan as new MD for India

Sportswear retailer Puma has appointed Karthik Balagopalan as the new Managing Director of PUMA India. He earlier served as Global Director Retail and e-commerce at the company.

He will succeed Abhishek Ganguly, who worked for PUMA’s Indian business for 17 years and has been the Managing Director of PUMA India since 2014. Ganguly is set to pursue a career as an entrepreneur in his own venture. Balagopalan will report to Puma CEO Arne Freundt and will be based in Bengaluru.

2. IPL 2023: RR’s Yuzvendra Chahal creates history, becomes first Indian to take most wickets in IPL

Yuzvendra Chahal, the spinner for both India and the Rajasthan Royals cricket team, made history on Sunday as he became the first Indian bowler to take 300 wickets in T20 cricket. Chahal’s impressive performance against the Sunrisers Hyderabad saw him take four wickets for just 17 runs in four overs, ultimately leading his team to a 72-run victory.

Chahal reached the milestone after dismissing Harry Brook with the last ball of the seventh over. He now has an impressive record of 303 wickets in 265 matches, having also taken down Mayank Agrawal, Adil Rashid, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar throughout the match.

3. NIIF appoints Rajiv Dhar as CEO & MD on interim basis

National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Limited (NIIFL) has appointed Rajiv Dhar, Executive Director & Chief Operating Officer as the Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of NIIFL on an interim basis, effective May 11, 2023. The planned succession follows Sujoy Bose’s request to relieve him from his current responsibilities as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, a position he held since 2016 in the company.

4. Alia Bhatt appointed as first Indian Global Ambassador of Gucci

Gucci, the luxury fashion brand from Italy, has appointed Alia Bhatt as its first global ambassador from India. She will debut as the brand’s newest global ambassador at the Gucci Cruise 2024 show in Seoul next week. This appointment is an important moment for both the brand and the Indian fashion industry, especially since it comes after Bhatt’s Met Gala debut.

5. Ayushmann Khurrana Joins Indian Team as Ambassador for Special Olympics Journey to Berlin

Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana has been chosen to inspire and support the Indian contingent participating in the upcoming Special Olympics for individuals with intellectual disabilities, set to take place in Berlin from June 16 to June 25. 6. International Nurses Day 2023 Observed on 12th May

International Nurses Day is observed on the 12th of May every year to commemorate the birth of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, who was born on May 12, 1820.

Nightingale was a British nurse, statistician, and social reformer who lay the foundation for what we see as modern nursing – a structured, methodical process of nursing the sick back to health. International Nurses Day is a Global celebration that acknowledges and celebrates the commitment and bravery of nurses around the world.

7. International Day of Plant Health 2023 celebrates on 12th May

The United Nations designated 12 May the International Day of Plant Health (IDPH) to raise global awareness on how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment, and boost economic development.

Plants are essential for life on Earth. They provide us with food, oxygen, and shelter. They also play a vital role in the environment, helping to regulate the climate and prevent soil erosion. However, plants are also vulnerable to pests and diseases.

8. India, Canada agree to increase discussions on movement of skilled professionals, students

India and Canada have agreed to ramp up their discussions on the movement of skilled professionals and students to enhance their bilateral economic partnership.

This decision was made during the sixth India-Canada Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment, where Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and his Canadian counterpart Mary Ng reviewed the progress of the seven rounds of negotiations towards an early harvest trade deal.
