1. Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar Anand, VSM takes over as Air Officer-in-Charge Administration (AOA)

Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar Anand, Vishisht Seva Medal took over as Air Officer-in-Charge Administration (AOA) on 01 Jun 2023. An alumnus of National Defence Academy, the Air Marshal was commissioned in Administrative Branch of the Indian Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller on 13 Jun 1987.

He has undergone the Higher Air Command Course from College of Air Warfare and Area Control Course from the Singapore Aviation Academy.

2. P Upadhyay, INAS takes over as Director General of Naval Armament (DGONA)

Shri P Upadhyay, INAS has taken over as Director General of Naval Armament (DGONA) at IHQ MoD (Navy) from Shri KSC lyer, who superannuated on 31 May 23. Shri P Upadhyay, belongs to 1987 batch of Indian Naval Armament Service.

He joined Naval Armament Organization of Indian Navy on 12 Jul 1989. An Electrical Engineering Graduate from SGSITS Indore, he earned his Post Graduate degrees from Devi Ahilya University in Electrical Engineering with specialization in ‘Digital Techniques and Instrumentation’ in 1988 and in Mechanical Engineering from University of Pune with specialisation in ‘Guided Missiles’, in 1995.

In a span of 34 years, he has held various important assignments at NAD (Visakhapatnam), NAD (Karanja), NAD (Trombay), NAD (Alwaye) and IHQ, MoD(N). He is an alumnus of Naval Defence College of NDC-53.

3. France become the first country to restrict short-haul domestic flights

The French government has become the first large economy to ban short-haul flights where a train or bus alternative of two and a half hours or less exists–a move which was voted on in 2021 and comes into effect in April 2022.

The ban is an attempt to reduce the country’s carbon emissions arising from plane travel–a move which The Guardian reported could eliminate 12% of French domestic flights.

4. NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL) and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) to collaborate for development of Renewable Energy Power Parks and Projects

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Lucknow yesterday with an aim to collaborate in the development of Renewable Energy Parks and Projects and to facilitate in Government of India’s efforts towards energy transition.

The MoU was signed by Shri Mohit Bhargava, CEO (NGEL) and Shri Nidhi Kumar Narang, Director (Finance), UPRVUNL in the presence of Shri P. Guruprasad, MD (UPRVUNL), Shri Praveen Saxena, Regional Executive Director (NR) of NTPC. Shri V V Sivakumar, GM (NGEL) and other senior officials of NTPC, NGEL and UPRVUNL were present during the occasion.

5. Bidyut Bihari Swain, IAS (GJ:1988) takes oath of Office and Secrecy as Member, UPSC

Shri Bidyut B. Swain joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1988 in the Gujarat Cadre. Between the year 1989 & 2018, Shri Swain served the Government of Gujarat in various posts, in the Districts and at the State Level.

CEO, Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board, Secretary, Primary Education, Industries Commissioner, VC & MD, Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation and Chief Electoral Officer, Gujarat State were among his important postings.

He joined the Government of India in 2018 as Additional Secretary in Department of Commerce in charge of Special Economic Zones, Trade negotiations of India with CIS Countries, Export Insurance and also held various positions such as Chairperson of Kimberley Protocol and Commissioner General of India, World Expo- Dubai.

6. Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurates National Training Centre for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India

“As we aim to become a developed nation in our Amrit Kaal, it is essential that our citizens are healthy. Swasth Nagrik creates a Swastha Rashtra, which leads to a Samruddha Rashtra.”

This was stated by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya at the inauguration of the state-of-the-art National Training Centre for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) at Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh yesterday.

Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, Minister of State (HFW) and General (Dr.) V.K. Singh, Minister of State (Civil Aviation, MoRTH) were also present at the event.

7. FCI becomes leading recruiter in recent years by recruiting a large number of youth every year

Food Corporation of India (FCI), one of the largest Public Sector Undertakings under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution for ensuring the food security of the nation has been one of the leading recruiters in recent years, recruiting a large number of youth every year.

8. Noted Sanskrit scholar Ved Kumari Ghai passes away

Sanskrit scholar Ved Kumari Ghai passed away at the age of 91. She was born in Jammu City, Jammu and Kashmir, in 1931. She did her MA and PhD in Sanskrit from the University of Jammu. She also studied at the Banaras Hindu University and the University of Oxford.

9. World Milk Day 2023 is observed on June 01

World Milk Day, established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, has been observed across the world since its inception in 2001. The idea behind the special day is to bring the importance of milk as a global food to the forefront and to promote dairy farming and the dairy industry.

According to worldmilkday.org, the theme of World Milk Day 2023 is “Showcasing how dairy is reducing its environmental footprint, while also providing nutritious foods and livelihoods.”

10. NHPC and VUCL, Nepal sign MoU for the development of Phukot Karnali Hydro Electric Project (480MW) in Nepal

NHPC Limited (A Govt. of India Enterprise) and Vidhyut Utpadan Company Limited (VUCL), Nepal signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) in New Delhi today for development of Phukot Karnali Hydro Electric Project (480MW) in Nepal.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Nepal Shri Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.

10. Global Parents Day 2023 IS observed on June 01

Global Parents Day is celebrated on June 1 every year to honor all parents around the world for the selfless commitment and lifelong sacrifice they make for their children.

HISTORY OF GLOBAL DAY OF PARENTS:

In 2012, the General Assembly proclaimed June 1 as the Global Day of Parents, to be observed annually in honour of parents throughout the world. This was done to appreciate all parents for their “selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship.”

11. Razorpay Launches ‘Turbo UPI’ for Seamless One-Step Payments to Online Merchants
