1. 3rd Working Group meeting on military cooperation between Indian-Russian held

The 3rd meeting of the Working Group on Military Cooperation of the Indian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Military and Military-Technical Cooperation was held from 18–19 July 2023 at Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi.

The meeting was co-chaired by Lt. Gen Johnson P Mathew, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC), HQ-IDS, and Lt. Gen Dylevsky Igor Nikolaevich, Deputy Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

The meeting was conducted in a friendly warm and cordial atmosphere.

2. India donates $1 million to promote Hindi at the UN

India has donated $1 million to the United Nations to support the promotion of the Hindi language.

Melissa Fleming, the Global Communications under-secretary-general, expressed gratitude to @IndiaUNNewYork and @ruchirakamboj for their generous investment in the @UNinHindi service, aimed at delivering UN news and stories to Hindi-speaking audiences in India and beyond.

3. Indian Railways offers ₹20 economy meal menu for general category passengers

Indian Railway has taken an effective initiative to provide the passengers of the general coaches with an economical meal at an affordable price of Rs.20 and snacks would cost Rs.50 with glasses of water of 200ml at affordable prices.

Indian Railway will provide healthy and hygienic food to the passengers of the general coaches at an affordable price in order to expand their food and beverage services.

The passengers are provided with the economic meal at Rs.20 and snacks atRs.50. at the service counter located near the general coach at the platforms.

4. Surat Diamond Bourse: India’s Gem Capital Overtakes US with World’s Largest Office

Surat, Gujarat, the gem capital of India, has surpassed the United States by hosting the world’s largest office building – the ‘Surat Diamond Bourse.’

Replacing the iconic Pentagon in the US, this interconnected office structure features nine rectangular buildings emanating from a central “spine.”

Boasting a vast floor space of 7.1 million square feet, the Surat Diamond Bourse now holds the crown as the largest office building globally, dethroning the Pentagon, which held this title for almost 80 years.

5. India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway Project

The external minister of India S. Jaishankar met his Myanmar counterpart Tha Swe to discuss the expeditions projects especially the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway and the challenges faced in the smooth implementation of the project.

India-Myanmar-Thailand Highway is a significant regional connectivity project that aims to establish a road link between India, Myanmar, and Thailand.

6. Centre appoints IPS officer Manoj Yadava as DG of Railway Protection Force

Manoj Yadava, a senior IPS officer from the Haryana cadre, has been designated as the new Director General of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), according to an order from the Personnel Ministry.

Yadava, who belongs to the 1988 batch of the Indian Police Service, will take over from Sanjay Chander, who is set to retire on July 31. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved Yadava’s appointment as DG, RPF, until his retirement on July 31, 2025.

7. Ms Nivruti Rai appointed as MD & CEO of Invest India

Ms Nivruti Rai joined as the Managing Director & CEO of Invest India. She has taken over the charge from Ms Manmeet K Nanda, Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) who had assumed this additional charge of MD & CEO ad-interim in March 2023.

Ms Rai is the recipient of the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar for her remarkable contributions to the field of technology. Ms Nivruti Rai joins Invest India after an illustrious 29 years at Intel as a global business and technology leader.

8. Rajay Kumar Sinha Assumes the Role as Chief of SBICAPS

Rajay Kumar Sinha has officially assumed the position of Chief at SBI Capital Markets Limited (SBICAPS).

Before taking on this role, he was responsible for overseeing Treasury operations at the State Bank of India (SBI), where he managed various aspects, including the bank’s investment portfolio, money market, equity, private equity, and forex operations.

Sinha, who became a Probationary Officer at SBI in 1991, has now taken over the position of Chief at SBI Capital Markets Limited (SBICAPS), succeeding Amitava Chatterjee.

Amitava Chatterjee has moved to SBI, Corporate Centre, where he will serve as Deputy Managing Director, overseeing the Commercial Clients Group.

9. Indian GM Praggnanandhaa wins Super GM chess tournament in Hungary

R Praggnanandhaa, the 17-year-old Indian Grandmaster, achieved a remarkable triumph in the Super GM chess tournament 2023, scoring an impressive 6.5 points.

In the highly competitive Super GM chess tournament 2023, the young Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa emerged as the champion.

He impressively scored 6.5 points, securing a clear first position in the 10-player event. After nine rounds of intense play, he finished one point ahead of M Amin Tabatabaei (Iran) and Russia’s Sanan Sjugirov.

10. DD Sports secures Television rights for FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023

DD Sports has partnered with 1Stadia to broadcast the highly anticipated 9th edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, bringing joy and excitement to fans.

The tournament, starting on July 20, 2023, will mark the inaugural occasion when the World Cup is co-hosted by two countries, namely Australia and New Zealand.

1Stadia has granted streaming platform FanCode the sub-licensing rights for streaming the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, while public broadcaster DD Sports has been entrusted with the sub-licensing rights for television broadcasting.

11. National Mango Day 2023 is observed on July 22

National Mango Day is annually observed on July 22. Mango is one of the most-relished fruit, as well as, an integral part of Indian history. It is consumed worldwide. It can be relished in various ways, for example in ice creams, mousse, smoothies, and much more.

The roots of the International Mango Festival can be traced back to 1987 when the National Horticulture Board of India had a bright idea—to celebrate mango.
