  1. Syama Raju re-elected as SIHRA President

K Syama Raju, Managing Director, Hotel Maurya, was re-elected as the President for the year 2017-18 at the 66th Annual General Meeting of South India Hotels and Restaurants Association (SIHRA) held recently at Chennai.

T Natarajan, CEO, GRT Hotels and Resorts, was re-elected Honorary Secretary for the same year.

Though the industry faced challenges in terms of highway, liquor ban and GST, tourism and travel continued to grow.

  1. Maharashtra, Gujarat top in manufacturing: Assocham

Maharashtra and Gujarat are the top States in manufacturing emergence in India, according to a recent study conducted by the apex industry body Assocham.

Maharashtra has topped with the highest growth in entrepreneurs’ memorandum (EM) part-II filed by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Gujarat has performed very well on parameters such as change in capacity utilisation, operational ratio, value addition and input cost.

  1. Centre to set up regulatory review committee to push industrial growth

The Centre will soon set up a regulatory review committee to look at issues inhibiting industrial growth and propose ways to get the growth momentum back.

Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu, in a meeting with top industry associations including CII, FICCI, Assocham and PHD Chambe, also decided to put in place a monitoring mechanism to track domestic and foreign investment proposals in collaboration with States.

  1. Ram Vilas Paswan launches “Electronic Negotiable Warehouse Receipt (e-NWR) System”

Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has launched the Web Portal of Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA) & “Electronic Negotiable Warehouse Receipt (e-NWR) System” in New Delhi.

Paswan launched the initiatives taken by the WDRA in simplifying the Warehouse Registration Rules, digitizing the entire process of registration, monitoring and surveillance as well as creation and management of Negotiable Warehouse Receipts (NWRs) in electronic form through two repositories.

  1. Rajnath Singh to launch PENCIL Portal at the National Conference on Child Labour

“PENCIL”: an electronic platform for effective enforcement for no child labour developed by Ministry of Labour and Employment is going to be launched by Home Minister Rajnath Singhji on 26th September 2017 in the National Conference on Child Labour at Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra, Chanakya Puri, New Delhi.

The Conference is being attended by State Labour Ministers and Labour Secretaries of the State, Secretaries of Central Ministries, District Nodal Officers as well as the Project Directors for National Child Labour Project (NCLP). 

Nobel Laureate Shri Kailash Satyarthi will be the guest of honour while the Labour and Employment Minister, Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar will precide over the conference.

  1. Vice-President inaugurates a “Crusade for Toilets” in Karnataka

The Vice President, M Venkaiah Naidu has inaugurated the “Swachhta Hi Seva” and “Shouchalayakkagi Samara” (A Crusade for Toilets) Programme in Karnataka. He was presiding as the Chief Guest over a public event at Hubli.

He also inaugurated a “Shudda Kudiyuva Neerina Ghataka” (Purified Drinking Water Plant), visited the Janata Colony in the village, and addressed a “Shouchalayakkagi Samara” public gathering at the local high school.

  1. Kandla Port renamed as Deendayal Port

The Ministry of Shipping has issued a notification renaming Kandla Port Trust as Deendayal Port Trust with effect from 25th of September, 2017.

Kandla Port, located on the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat, is one of the twelve major ports in the country.

As per the Ministry’s notification, the Central Government, in exercise of powers conferred on it under Indian Ports Act, 1908, made the amendment to replace “Kandla” with “Deendayal”.

  1. RBI nod for banks to invest in PE, venture debt funds

The Reserve Bank of India has now allowed banks to invest in the capital of Category II Alternative Investment Funds, which includes private equity and venture debt funds.

It had earlier allowed banks to invest in the paid-up or unit capital of Category I AIFs, which include venture capital funds and social venture funds.

RBI has amended an earlier order issued in May 2016, permitting this investment and has maintained the cap at 10 per cent of the capital of VC, PE and venture debt funds.

It has, however, continued with the bar on banks investing in Category III AIFs, which include hedge funds.

  1. Rajyavardhan Rathore inaugurates National workshop on “Sports for All” in New Delhi

A national workshop on “Sports for All” was organized with the participation of about 80 representatives from Indian Olympic Association, Department of Sports , Sports Authority of India, National Observers , National Sports Federations of high priority and priority disciplines, SGFI and AIUs, Sports Secretaries of the States and the Union Territories, Sports promotion Boards and Sports promotion NGOs.

As the Sports development plays a significant role towards individual development, community development, economic development and national development.
