  1. Sameer Maithel wins 2017 Climate and Clean Air Award

The 2017 Climate and Clean Air Award for Individual Achievement has gone to Sameer Maithel, Founder and Director of Greentech Knowledge Solutions, for his work to reduce black carbon emissions from brick kilns in India.

For his work in the brick sector, he was awarded Climate and Clean Air Coalition inaugural award at the Climate Conference at Bonn in 2017.

  1. Nabaneeta Dev Sen honoured with Big Little Book Award

Popular Bengali writer Nabaneeta Dev Sen has been declared winner in ‘Author in Bengali language’ category at the second edition of Big Little Book Award.

A first-of-its-kind initiative in India, the Big Little Book Award seeks to recognise and honour authors and illustrators who have contributed to children’s literature that are global in appeal and contextual in nature.

The award has been instituted under Parag initiative of Tata Trusts to promote children’s literature.

  1. Actor Trisha gets UNICEF celebrity advocate status

Tamil actor Trisha Krishnan was conferred the UNICEF celebrity advocate status.  The actor will lend support to efforts to address issues such as anaemia, child marriage, child labour and child abuse, especially in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Chief of UNICEF office Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Job Zachariah was quoted as saying that Trisha was an “icon for the adolescents and young people.”

Press Information Bureau director general Ira Joshi was appointed as the Director General of Doordarshan News following the retirement of Veena Jain.

PIB DG Ghanshyam Goel has been made the new DG of Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP.

  1. BlackBerry COO Marty Beard resigns

BlackBerry Ltd Chief Operating Officer Marty Beard has resigned from the Canadian software company, effective Dec. 1.

Beard, 54, played a major role in helping company Chief Executive John Chen develop a strategy for turning the company around after the collapse of its smartphone business, helping expand its line of software products for large companies and government agencies.

  1. The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be inaugurated in Goa

As the 48th edition of International film festival of India is all set to kick start tomorrow in the Goan capital, the city puts its best forward to make it one of the most memorable festival circuits in the history.

The festival will be presenting 195 films from over 82 countries of which there will be 10 World Premieres, 10 Asian and international premieres and over 64 Indian premieres as part of the official program.

  1. B’luru joins 91-city network to collate climate change data

Bengaluru has joined 91 cities across the globe in collating data on climate change. Called the Datacity programme led by French start-up accelerator NUMA, Bengaluru is the recent city to join this network along with Barcelona and Singapore.

The aim of the programme is to develop data which can help resolve climate challenges. According to NUMA representatives, the programme has been successfully implemented in Paris and Casablanca. The Datacity programme was launched in Paris in 2015.

  1. INTACH opens new chapters in Haryana, Raj, Chhattisgarh

Heritage body INTACH has opened a new chapter each in Haryana, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, taking the total number of its branches to 200.

A non-profit organisation established in 1984 and headquartered in New Delhi, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) works on protection, conservation and promotion of tangible and intangible heritage.

The new chapters are likely to give boost to documentation and preservation of heritage in the three states.

  1. Radha Mohan Singh to inaugurate World Fisheries Day Celebrations 2017

On 21st November 1997, the working fishermen and women representing World Forum of Fish Harvesters & Fish Workers from 18 countries met at New Delhi and established the World Fisheries Forum (WFF) advocating for a global mandate of sustainable fishing practices and policies.

Mohan Singh, Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare will inaugurate the World Fisheries Day Celebrations.

On this occasion an exhibition showcasing the technological advances made and development achieved in Fisheries Sector would be organized and about 50 exhibitors will be participating.

  1. India, World Bank sign loan agreement towards Solar Parks Project

The union government and the World Bank signed a guarantee agreement for USD 98 million and grant agreement for USD 2 million for the “Shared Infrastructure for Solar Parks Project.”

The project consists of two components- Shared Infrastructure for Solar Parks (estimated total project cost of USD 100 million, including USD 75 million in IBRD loan and USD 23 million in CTF Loan) and technical assistance (USD 2 million in CTF Grant).

The objective of the project is to increase solar generation capacity through establishment of large-scale parks in the country.

  1. Former Wimbledon champion Jana Novotna dies aged 49

Former Wimbledon champion Jana Novotna has died at the age of 49 after suffering from cancer.

Novotna who won the Wimbledon title in 1998 when she defeated France’s Nathalie Tauziat. She played in two other Wimbledon singles finals, losing to Steffi Graf in 1993 and to Martina Hingis in 1997.

  1. Senior Congress leader Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi passes away

Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, former All India Football Federation (AIFF) President and leader of the Congress party, has died at the age of 72. He was in coma since 2008.

President of the AIFF from 1988 to 2008, Dasmunsi was the first Indian to serve as a match commissioner in a FIFA World Cup game.

  1. NDTV Group CEO K V L Narayan Rao passes away

Broadcasting firm NDTV Group CEO and Executive Vice Chairperson K V L Narayan Rao passed away.  He was 63.

Rao had joined NDTV as General Manager in January 1995, looking after human resources, administration and operations of the organisation.

Rao was also member of the Ficci Entertainment Committee and the CII National Committee on Media & Entertainment.
