1. Hemant Soren Sworn in as Jharkhand Chief Minister After Legal Ordeal

Hemant Soren is back as Chief Minister of Jharkhand after being removed by the Enforcement Directorate and then returned after five months. After a rough time of political maneuvering in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which leads the state’s ruling party, he was reappointed.

Battles in court and political moves

Hemant Soren’s rise to power began with him stepping down because he was in trouble with the law, but the High Court later found him not guilty of any wrongdoing and cleared him. His return forced temporary Chief Minister Champai Soren to step down, which showed how things work within the party.

Future Problems and a Plan for the Elections

As state elections are coming up, Hemant Soren needs to strengthen his position within the alliance and get ready for challenges from opposing parties, especially the BJP, which has spoken out against the change in leadership in JMM.

2. RBI Appoints Charulatha S Kar as Executive Director

From July 1, 2024, Smt. Charulatha S Kar will be the Executive Director (ED) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). She has worked for over thirty years in different fields, such as Payment and Settlement Systems, Information Technology, and Government Banking, most recently as Chief General Manager-in-Charge of the Human Resource Management Department. In some foreign meetings and committees, Smt. Kar has spoken for the RBI.

As executive director, Smt. Kar will be in charge of the communication department, the human resources department, and the right to information (first appellate authority). She is a Certified Associate of IIBF and has a post-graduate degree in business from the University of Mumbai. She also has a Diploma in Treasury & Forex Management.

A Brief History of Other Appointments

Along with Smt. Kar, the RBI also chose Arnab Kumar Chowdhury to be Executive Director from June 3, 2024. Chowdhury has a lot of knowledge in both overseeing financial entities and making business plans. He was previously the Chief General Manager-in-Charge of the Department of Supervision. He is in charge of the foreign exchange department, the overseas department, and the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation.

3. Justice Sheel Nagu Appointed Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court

Justice Sheel Nagu has been named Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. This was announced by the Center on Thursday. Before, after Chief Justice Ravi Malimath left his job on May 24, 2024, Justice Nagu was the acting chief justice of the Madhya Pradesh high court. His promotion comes after the Supreme Court Collegium suggested it, and he takes over the job that was open when Chief Justice RS Jha retired on October 13, 2023. As of right now, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva is the new Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Birth and Early Years of Work: Justice Sheel Nagu was born on January 1, 1965. He became an attorney in October 1987 and worked at the Madhya Pradesh High Court in criminal, constitutional, and service cases.

Appointment to the Bench: Made a High Court judge on May 27, 2011.

Contributions to the Law: Wrote more than 499 reported decisions while working at the Madhya Pradesh High Court for 12 years.

6. Albania’s world-renowned novelist Ismail Kadare died at 88

The famous Albanian author and artist Ismail Kadare died on July 1, 2024, in Tirana, Albania. He was 88 years old. Kadare earned a lot of praise around the world for “The General of the Dead Army” and won many awards, including the International Booker Prize in 2005.

Even though he was persecuted by Albania’s communist government, he kept writing and lived in exile in France before going back to Albania.
