1. R.M. Veerappan, the most trusted lieutenant of late MGR, passed away
In addition to being a politician in India, R. M. Veerappan was also an early Dravidian leader, as well as a film producer and screenwriter.
He was originally from the state of Tamil Nadu in India.
His party, the MGR Kazhagam, was founded by him, and he was also its head.
2. Nobel laureate Peter Higgs, discoverer of the ‘god particle’ passed away
Peter Higgs, a physicist who predicted the Higgs boson, also known as the “god particle,” went suddenly at the age of 94. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics.
In 1964, Higgs proposed a proposal that was essential to the Standard Model. This idea describes how subatomic particles acquire mass.
His forecast was validated by the discoveries made by the Large Hadron Collider, which occurred approximately half a century after his prognosis.
3. George Lucas to receive honorary Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival
In recognition of George Lucas’s significant contributions to the film industry, the honorary Palme d’Or will be bestowed upon him at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
The honor will be bestowed upon Lucas on May 25 during the closing ceremony of the film gala.
Lucas is most known for developing the long-running and smash hit franchises “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones.”
4. Harendra Singh Appointed as Coach of Indian Women’s Hockey Team Until 2028 Olympics
The Indian senior women’s hockey team has chosen Harendra Singh, a former hockey player who won the Dronacharya award, to be their coach.
He will take over for Janneke Schopman, a former Dutch hockey player who quit as coach of the Indian women’s national team last month because they didn’t make it to the Paris Olympics 2024.
Harendra Singh’s Work
- Harendra Singh’s first job as a coach was with the junior team of the French club HC Lyon in 1995.
- He became the head coach of the Indian men’s junior team in 2014, leading them to victory at the 2016 men’s Junior World Cup in Lucknow.
- In 2017, Hockey India hired Harendra Singh to lead the senior women’s national team. The team won the gold medal at the 2017 Asia Cup while he was in charge.
- Later, in 2018, Harendra Singh was hired as the coach of the senior men’s national team. However, after several bad results, Hockey India fired him in January 2019.
- Harendra Singh was fired by Hockey India and then became the head coach of the US men’s national hockey team in 2021.
5. India Ranks Second in Hepatitis B and C Cases Worldwide
India has 3.5 crore cases of Hepatitis B and C, which is second only to China in terms of the number of infections, according to the WHO’s 2024 Global Hepatitis Report.
Hepatitis causes disease of the liver and is very dangerous to your health. It can even kill you.
The study says that 254 million people around the world have Hepatitis B and 50 million have Hepatitis C.

- There are five main types of hepatitis: A, B, C, D, and E. They are different in how they spread, how severe they are, and where they are most common.
- Even though they are different, all of these strains can cause liver cancer.
6. World Homeopathy Day 2024 is observed on April 10
It is World Homeopathy Day every year on April 10th.
World Homeopathy Day 2024 has the theme “Homeoparivar: One Health, One Family.”
Another type of treatment called homeopathy is based on the idea that tiny substances can heal the symptoms of a disease.

Private lender HDFC Bank has opened a branch at Kavaratti Island in Lakshadweep, making it the only private sector bank to have a presence in the Union Territory.
