Bandhan gets bank licence from RBI

Bandhan gets bank licence from RBI: Micro-lender Bandhan Financial Services today said it has received final nod from the Reserve Bank to set up a universal bank and will commence operations from August 23. The entity will be named as Bandhan Bank. “We will launch the bank in Kolkata, where Bandhan is headquartered, on August 23. Bandhan had received the RBI’s in-principle banking licence in April last year, along with infrastructure finance company IDFC . In an inteview with CNBC-TV18’s Manasvi Ghelani, Ghosh said the bank was looking to launch “small and simple products”.

What is the Bandhan Bank product offering going to be like?
Bandhan Bank would offer very small and simple products. If we come to existing banks, there are 50 products and the manager cannot know all 50 products. So there will not be good marketing. We like to design products in a simple, customer-driven way. So that if customers buy, we can provide support to them.
