Yan Dhanda becomes first player of Indian Heritage to sign with Liverpool

Liverpool youngster Yan Dhanda has become the first player of Indian heritage to sign a professional contract with the Reds. The 17-year-old, who was born in Birmingham, joined Liverpool from West Brom in 2013 and has now signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Anfield. Dhanda has been capped at youth level by England, playing for the Under-16 and Under-17 teams – scoring once for the latter – and won the Up and Coming Player award at the 2013 Asian Football Awards.

Dhanda has made two appearances for Liverpool’s Under-21 side thus far this season, featuring for 90 minutes against both Sunderland and Tottenham. The teenager will now hope to catch manager Jurgen Klopp’s eye as he continues his development.
