World Bengali Literary meet in Nagpur

Nagpur is all set to conduct a three-day long ‘World Bangla Sammelan’ (World Bengali Literary meet) from June 26. It is expected that around 130 well known personalities will participate in the event. The announcement was made by Organising Committee president Bibek Kumar Mukherjee.  West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bangladesh High Commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali and Tripura Governor Tathagat Roy will attend this meeting.

Foreign delegates from London,Dallas, Singapore, Torontoare are also taking part in the event. Singing maestro Rishi Banerjee (London), Prakriti Dutta (Edinborough), Indrani Banerjee, Loa Mudra Mitra will perform during the event.

  • Bengali is the most spoken language in Bangladesh and second most spoken language in India.
  • It is the seventh most spoken language in the world by total number of native speakers.
  • The National Anthem of Bangladesh, National Anthem of India, National Anthem of Sri Lanka and the national song of India were all first composed in the Bengali language.
  • In 1999, UNESCO declared February 21 as International Mother Language Day in recognition of the people who sacrificed their lives for their right to use the Bengali language, instead of the then-state-imposed Urdu.
