Sukrita Paul Kumar, a poet and critic, was honored with the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize for her collection of poems titled “Salt & Pepper: Selected Poems.” This marked the sixth edition of the award.
The award ceremony that took place on Monday presented Kumar with a sum of five thousand United States dollars, a statue of Tagore, and a diploma for his service to the field of literature.
“Being awarded the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize for the sixth time is an extremely and profoundly humbling event. Not only does this acknowledgment legitimize my artistic journey, but it also highlights the universality of storytelling in terms of uniting different cultures. As the poet, who is 74 years old, expressed his gratitude, “I am extremely grateful for this acknowledgement.”
The Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize for social achievement was bestowed upon Abhijit Banerjee, the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature, in recognition of his contributions to the betterment of society.
It is a tremendous honor to be presented with the Tagore Prize for achievements in the field of social work. According to a statement released by Banerjee, “this recognition highlights the importance of addressing societal issues and underscores the impact of collective efforts in shaping a better world.”
‘The City and the Sea’ was the work that Raj Kamal Jha, a journalist and author, was awarded the prize for the previous year.
