President gave away National Tourism Awards

President Pranab Mukherjee gave away the National Tourism Awards for the year 2013-14 at a function in New Delhi. Gujarat got the top award in Comprehensive Development of Tourism category. Madhya Pradesh was awarded the Best Maintained & Disabled-friendly Monument National. Gujarat was also awarded the Best Rural Tourism Project in National tourism Awards 2013-14.

UIDAI shifted to IT Ministry from NITI Aayog

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which issues Aadhaar cards, has been shifted to the administrative control of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology from Niti Aayog. The decision has been taken keeping in mind the government’s ambitious ‘Digital India’ programme as the Aadhaar numbers are being linked with several services.  Aadhaar is a 12-digit individual identification number issued by UIDAI.

Election Commission releases NOTA symbol for all polls

The Election Commission (EC) has introduced a symbol for “None of the Above (NOTA)” option to facilitate voters in exercising their NOTA option in elections. The symbol will now appear in the last panel on all EVMs and the other ballot papers against the NOTA option in all the upcoming elections. The NOTA option was made available to the voters with effect from 11 October, 2013, pursuant to the Supreme Court order of 27 September, 2013. The symbol for NOTA option was designed by the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.

Parrikar adopts village in Amethi constituency

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has adopted Barauliya village in Amethi, the Parliamentary constituency of Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana. Former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is a Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh.

CVRDE Director P Sivakumar elevated as Distinguished Scientist

Director of Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), Avadi, P Sivakumar has been elevated as “Distinguished Scientist” with immediate effect by the Defence Ministry in recognition to his services. Sivakumar was involved in development of various products, including the Arjun MBT Mark-II, Carrier Command Post Tracked Vehicle, unmanned ground vehicles. Sivakumar was also a fellow of National Academy of Engineering.

IDFC gets RBI nod for using Rs 2,500 crore reserve

Integrated infrastructure finance company IDFC has been granted the regulatory approval by the RBI to utilise Rs 2,500 crore non-distributable statutory reserves. The amount will be used for creation of specific provisions against stressed assets. These additional provisions are being created after a careful examination of the stressed assets portfolio and in accordance with our philosophy of prudent risk management and transparency.

Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa inaugurates butterfly park

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has inaugurated a butterfly park from the Secretariat, Chennai. The park, constructed at an estimated Rs. four crore over 6.7 acres of land at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park at suburban Vandalur. The Park has a slew of features, including 200 species of plants and trees, and will have a conducive atmosphere for the butterflies.

Supreme Court launches National Judicial Data Grid for pending cases

The Supreme Court of India has launched a public access portal of the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) for district courts to demystify the judicial process for the ordinary citizen. The public access portal will disseminate national, State, district and court-wise information about institution and disposal of cases on a monthly basis.


Bank of Baroda Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar Scheme

The Bank of Baroda has been conferred the first prize under the All India Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar Scheme of Government of India. The PSU has bagged the award for outstanding performance in official language implementation under the category of nationalized banks in the linguistic region – B – for the year 2014-15. The bank received the award from President Pranab Mukherjee during a function held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on the occasion of Hindi Diwas.

All India Banjara Sangh formed to fight for community’s rights

An independent organisation named All India Banjara Sangh has been formed to take up long pending issues of the ‘Banjara’ (nomadic people) community. At a meeting of the Banjara community leaders from all over the country, a unanimous decision was taken to form an independent organisation to take up the long pending issues of the community.

MoU signed by FICCI to facilitate Indo-Canadian co-productions

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Toronto have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to engage in mutual co-operation in the fields of film, television, visual effects and gaming. The MoU was signed between Toronto Mayor John Tory, Consul General of India in Toronto and FICCI-Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming & Comics Forum Chairman Dr Ashish Kulkarni.

Singapore most preferred destination for Indian travellers

According to Hotels.com’s Hotel Price Index, Singapore is the first preferred country by Indian travelers among the overseas destinations in first half of this year. Singapore has replaced Dubai, which was at the top spot last year. Hotels.com is a leading online accommodation booking website with properties ranging from international chains and all-inclusive resorts to local favourites.

PM Narendra Modi to address India-US StartUp Konnect 2015

Following the Prime Minister clarion call of Start up India, Stand up India, from the ramparts of the Red Fort, NASSCOM, TiE Silicon Valley, and IIM Ahmedabad CIIE India are hosting the first India- U.S. Startup Konnect in the Silicon Valley on 27th September. The day-long event will highlight multiple dimensions of Indian innovation capabilities, represented by more than 30 startups  across various sectors.
