Hockey NGO gets Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar

One Thousand Hockey Legs, an NGO which seeks to introduce the game of hockey to school kids in India, was awarded the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar by President Pranab Mukherjee. OTHL is a volunteer based organization, welcomes volunteers and coaches to contribute to hockey and children’s development through this platform.

Operating in five Indian cities,Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Puducherry and Kanpur. the NGO trains students in 90 schools and provides free hockey kits, coaching and other facilities for the kids to excel in the sport.

Andhra 2nd state to achieve 100% electrification

Andhra Pradesh has become the second state in the country after Gujarat to achieve 100 per cent electrification of households. JM Financials published the report based on a national-level survey on electrification in various states.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said, “We achieved 100 per cent electrification by June-end. Now, you have to set a target of ensuring uninterrupted world-class quality power supply”.

Subramanian Swamy awarded ‘Tamil Ratna’ in United States

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy has been honoured with the‘Tamil Ratna’ award by a body of Tamil diaspora here for fighting corruption and working for more transparency in the functioning of the government. The AmericaTamil Sangam awarded the Tamil Ratna to the senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP, who is currently on a visit to the US.

Cabinet approves setting up of Higher Education Financing Agency

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the creation of the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) to give a major push for creation of high quality infrastructure in premier educational institutions. The HEFA would be jointly promoted by the identified Promoter and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) with an authorised capital of Rs.2,000 crore. The Government equity would be Rs.1,000 crore.

CCEA approves approves III phase of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs met and approved the proposal for initiation of the Third Phase of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP). The project will be implemented as a ‘Central Sector Scheme’ with total project outlay of Rs. 3600 crore.
