Indian-origin UK MP Keith Vaz appointed Vice-Chairman of Labour Party

Indian Origin British MP Keith Vaz has been appointed as the vice-chairman of the Labour party. In the latest general election, Keith Vaz was re-elected from his Leicester East. He currently serves as the chair of the influential Home Affairs Select Committee in the House of Commons.

Keith Vas said he feel delighted to have been appointed as vice-chairman of the Labour Party. He also said it is the perfect time for the party to regroup and bring fresh new ideas to the table. He also felt proud for being a part in that process.

Harman, Labour’s deputy leader, had assumed charge of the party after Ed Miliband stepped down as party leader following his party’s biggest defeat in the general election.

  • In the general election 2015,  David Cameron’s Conservative Party won the election and he became the Prime Minister by winning 331 seats.
  • The Labour Party, led by Ed Miliband, won 232 seats with 30.4%, suffering their worst result since 1987.
