India to host 2017 World Cup, NRAI aims for World Championships

India will be hosting the combined shotgun/rifle/pistol World Cup in 2017 and based on the event’s success, the NRAI will contemplate bidding for the 2018 prestigious World Championship. The combined tournament is the year’s one of the four World Cups in the International Shooting Sport Federation’s (ISSF) calendar. The NRAI is using the ongoing 8th Asian Air Gun Championship as a platform to bid for bigger events in near future.

  • The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) was founded in 1951 with a view to promote and popularize the shooting sports in India.
  • The first speaker of Lok Sabha, G.V. Mavlankar was the founder of NRAI.
  • NRAI is affiliated to Indian Olympic Association and all International Shooting Federations/Confederations.
Abhinav Bindra
  • Abhinav Singh Bindra  is an Indian shooter and is a World and Olympic champion in the 10 m Air Rifle event.
  • By winning the gold in the 10 m Air Rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, he became the first Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympic Games.
  • It was also India’s first gold medal since 1980, when the Men’s Field Hockey Team won the gold.
