  • An Australian state parliament has legalised euthanasia for the terminally ill with MPs voting to give patients the right to request a lethal drug to end their lives from 2019.
  • The Russian Security Council has asked the country’s government to develop an independent internet infrastructure for BRICS nations, which would continue to work in the event of global internet malfunctions.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is planning a joint venture with a consortium of companies where a space rocket will be completely built by the private industry.
  • ISRO satellite imageries will soon monitor suspicious vessels and boats venturing into seas as part of the fortification of the country’s coastal security.
  • Planet Labs Inc, a US-based integrated aerospace and data analytics company, four of its Dove satellites will be launched aboard India’s PSLV-C40 mission, scheduled to fly in January next year.

  • Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to indigenously develop and produce a Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) for the Army
  • A group of 15 officers from the Myanmarese army has started a six-day bilateral military exercise with their counterparts from the Indian Army in Meghalaya
