  • The Minister of Women & Child Development, Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi launched an online complaint management system titled Sexual Harassment electronic–Box (SHe-Box) for registering complaints related to sexual harassment at workplace in New Delhi.
  • The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju has said that India need to prepare itself for moving towards Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) from an approach of traditional Disaster Management.
  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development will celebrate the Child Rights Week (Hausla 2017) from 16th to 20th November, 2017.
  • The government will start its second and final phase of BharatNet project – with an outlay of around Rs 34,000 crore — to provide high-speed broadband in all panchayats by March 2019.
  • Northeast is all set to get India’s first-ever “Air Dispensary” based in a helicopter and the Union Ministry of Development of Northeast (DONER) has already contributed Rs. 25 crore as part of the initial funding for this initiative.
  • India is likely to achieve strong growth over the next decade and will overtake Japan in nominal GDP by 2028, to emerge as the world’s third-largest economy, says a foreign brokerage Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BoAML).
  • Apple Inc has agreed to give limited help to the Indian government to develop an anti-spam mobile application for its iOS platform, after refusing to do so based on privacy concerns.

  • The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), common platform of 21 countries including India and geographically bordering Indian Ocean, is to set up a Centre of Excellence in Kochi.
  • Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has inaugurated Hajee Sir Ismail Sait Gosha Women and Children Hospitalin Shivajinagar.
  • Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the sixth China-India Forum meet being jointly hosted by the Government of China
  • Karnataka Bank has launched a special campaign for opening current account and savings accounts (CASA). The campaign will remain in force for a period of three-and-a-half months from November 15 to February 28.
  • Indore will be hosting the National Wrestling Championship.The championship will start on November 15 at Khel Prashal.
  • For the first time, the nation’s financial capital will host the 34th annual conference of the Asian Bankers Association (ABA) this week.
  • Chennai is the third Indian city on the list of UNESCO Creative Cities list after Jaipur and Varanasi.
  • The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, has signed an Institutional agreement with Anna University, Chennai.
  • Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami was launched a project to provide free coaching for Plus-Two students to enable them take competitive examinations, including the controversial National Eligibility- cum-Entrance Test or NEET.
  • The second edition of the two-day UEF Trade Summit will deliberate on ways to effectively influence economic, social and educational development of the country on November 18 and 19 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

  • India and Kazakhstan reviewed bilateral defence cooperation engagement between the two countries recently.

  • Pope Francis has ordered the Vatican to stop selling cigarettes, believing the Church should not be complicit in something that damages people’s health.
  • Bank of China has formally launched its operations in Pakistan, with its first branch inaugurated in Karachi.
  • The United States’ Congress has authorised to reimburse up to USD 700 million in Coalition Support Fund (CSF) for activities carried out in support of the U.S. operations in Afghanistan.
  • Qatar has appointed women to one of its most important consultative bodies, the Shura Council, for the first time in the country’s history
  • Hong Kong has signed free trade and investment pacts with the ten-nation Association of Southeast Asian Nations, in what one of the Chinese territory’s senior officials called a “loud and clear” vote against rising regional trade protectionism.
  • Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit was held at Da Nang,Vietnam. The theme of the summit was “Creating New Dynamism,Fostering a Shared Future”. Vietnam was holding the summit for the 2nd time.
  • Uber Technologies Inc. approved SoftBank Group Corp.’s offer to buy a multibillion-dollar stake in the ride-hailing company, setting the stage for one of the largest private start-up deals ever.
  • China has launched the world’s first all-electric ship, which can travel up to 80km with 2000-tonnes cargo after a two-hour charge
  • Syria has officially signed up to the Paris Agreement, leaving the United States as the only country to reject the global climate-rescue pact.
  • Saudi Arabia has approved teaching of Yoga and declared it as a sport. An individual who wants to practice yoga can avail a licence to do so, as per the Saudi Ministry of Trade and Industry.
  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the first drug in the U.S. with a digital ingestion tracking system. Abilify MyCite (aripiprazole tablets with sensor) has an ingestible sensor embedded in the pill that records that the medication was taken.

  • Uber has struck a deal with NASA to develop software for managing “flying taxi” routes in the air along the lines of ride-hailing services it has pioneered on the ground.

  • India has slipped in ‘business optimism’ index to the 7th position in the September quarter, from the 2nd slot in the previous three months, showing clear signs of lag in the economy, says a survey.

  • The governments of Odisha and neighbouring West Bengal will soon organize a joint security exercise named as ‘Sagar Kavach’ to further tighten the existing coastal security mechanism along the 630 km long coastline
  • Indian and Kazakh armies have completed the second edition of their joint military exercise – Prabal Dostyk – in Himachal Pradesh in a significant step towards fostering military and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
