1. Khelo India Winter Games 2023

The Khelo India scheme was launched to increase the sports skills of the youth in the country and also to increase the sports infrastructure.

Since the scheme’s launch, the Khelo India committee working under the sports ministry has been organizing several games like Khelo India Youth Games, Khelo India Winter Games, etc. The Khelo India Winter Games 2023 were recently launched in the Gulmarg of Jammu and Kashmir.

2. Global Quality Infrastructure Index (GQII) 2021

The Quality Council of India (QCI) stated that it is proud to be acknowledged as one of the world’s top five accreditation systems. It noted that it would help pave the way for collaborations that aim to improve the quality of infrastructure.

  • The top 5 countries are Germany, China, US, UK and Japan.
  • India ranked 5th is Global Quality Infrastructure Index

3. Journalist A.B.K. Prasad chosen for Raja Ram Mohan Roy National Award

Raja Ram Mohan Roy lived in the 19th century. The reformer founded Brahmo Samaj in 1828 and played a major role in abolishing Sati. The Press Council of India presents awards in the name of the legend every year. In 2023, the Raja Ram Mohan Roy National Award is presented to Journalist A.B.K. Prasad for his contributions towards journalism.

4. Lithium Reserves found in Jammu and Kashmir

The Geological Survey of India has found lithium reserves in Jammu and Kashmir. They have been found in the Reasi district. Today India is importing Lithium from countries from Argentina and Australia.

In 2021 alone, the price of lithium increased by 400% for several reasons. One of them was an increase in digital growth and electric batteries during COVID.

5. World Pulses Day, 2023 is observed on February 10

The United Nations and several other international organizations and countries celebrate World Pulses Day on February 10. The main objective of the celebration is to increase awareness of the nutritional benefits of pulses.

6. Ravichandran Ashwin becomes the fastest Indian to pick up 450 Test wickets

Ravichandran Ashwin picked up his 450th Test wicket during the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy game between India and Australia at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.

  • He achieved the feat when he bowled Alex Carey in the 54th over.
  • He also became the fastest Indian to scale the landmark, going past former leg-spinner Anil Kumble.
  • Ashwin took 89 Tests to reach the milestone as compared to Kumble’s 93.

7. IISc-Samsung partner for R&D in Electrostatic Discharge Protection

Electrostatic Discharge Protection is protecting the equipment from electromagnetic waves. It is the most essential part of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC).

  • Every electronic piece of equipment has to pass the EMC test to get certified as electromagnetically safe.
  • It means it is neither affected by EM waves nor emits EM waves (that may affect other devices).
  • Samsung has partnered with IISc to research Electrostatic Discharge Protection.

8. Indian Golfer Aditi Ashok Won Kenya Ladies Open Title 2023

Indian Olympian Aditi Ashok won the 2023 Magical Kenya Ladies Open Title with a final-round score of 74. This is the fourth Ladies’ European championship of Aditi Ashok overall.

Her first LET title comes after winning the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in Abu Dhabi in 2017. She finished with a score of 12-under 280 at the Vipingo Ridges after shooting a final round of 67-70-69-74.

9. ISRO’s new rocket SSLV-D2 launched from Satish Dhawan space centre at Sriharikota

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the second edition of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV-D2) from the first launch pad of Satish Dhawan space centre at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

10. NASA to launch ‘Mars mission’ on Blue Origin’s New Glenn

Jeff Bezos-led Blue Origin scored a big contract from the American space agency, Nasa, to launch a mission to Mars. The private space company was given its first interplanetary NASA contract to launch the mission to study the magnetic field around the Red Planet. The expected launch date for the mission is 2024.
