1. President Kovind inaugurated 6th India Water Week

The 6th India Water Week -2019 was inaugurated by the President Shri Ram Nath Kovind in Delhi on 24th September. The week is being organized by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. It is being organized since 2012. The international event to focus on water-related issues. So far, 5 editions of India Water Week have been organized.

2. India’s second largest railway overbridge in West Bengal

Indian Railways has completed the construction of the giant four-lane cable-stayed railway overbridge (RoB) at Burdwan Junction in West Bengal. The RoB, considered to be the second largest in the country will be inaugurated by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

3. Vice President inaugurates 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Vaidyaratnam P.S. Warrier

At Kottal in Kerala, vice President Shri Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Vaidyaratnam P.S. Varier. He emphasized the importance of Ayurvedic medicine and Atharva Veda at the event.

About Vaidyaratnam P S Warrier

He was an Ayurvedic physician. He founded Kottakal Arya Vaidyasala in 1902 for manufacture and sale of Ayurvedic medicines in India. He also established a Ayurvedic Patasala in 1917 that is now operating as an Ayurveda college.

4. Ponung Doming – First woman officer from Arunachal Pradesh to become Lieutenant Colonel In Indian Army

Ponung Doming is the first lady officer from Arunachal Pradesh in the Indian army to be elevated to the rank of Lieutenant colonel. She was commissioned into the Indian army as Lieutenant in 2008. She is currently posted in Pune, Maharashtra. Doming had completed her graduation in civil engineering. She served the UN Peace keeping force in Congo in 2014.

5. 23 September: 89th Saudi National Day 2019 celebrated

Every year 23 September is observed as Saudi National Day as a day to commemorate the name changing of what was previously known as the Kingdom of Nejd and Hejaz to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The day is now a public holiday in the Kingdom.

6. Lionel Messi wins FIFA player of the year as Cristiano Ronaldo skips ceremony

Lionel Messi won the FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award as beaten rival Cristiano Ronaldo stayed away from the star-studded ceremony in Milan’s iconic La Scala Opera House.

7. SBI links retail and MSME loans to repo rate

State Bank of India (SBINSE -3.55 %), the country’s largest lender has linked all its floating rate loans to individuals and medium and small enterprises (MSMEs) to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) benchmark repo rate. In a media release the bank said that all floating rate loans will be linked to the RBI’s repo rate effective from October 1, 2019.

8. India finish with 5 gold medals at ISSF World Cup

Indian shooters finished their campaign at the ISSF World Cup here with nine medals, including five gold, two silver and as many bronze medals. India won two gold medals. Ace shooters Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary defeated their Indian opponents Yashaswini Deswal and Abhishek Verma to claim the gold in 10m air pistol mixed team event.

9. Airtel Partners With Bharti AXA Life, Offers Prepaid Plan With Rs 4 Lakh Insurance Cover

Bharti Airtel has partnered with and Bharti AXA Life Insurance to leverage the deep penetration of mobile services and financial security in India. Airtel launched an innovative Rs. 599 pre-paid bundle with 2GB data/day, that offers unlimited calls to any network and 100 SMS/day, and Rs Four lakh life insurance cover from Bharti AXA Life Insurance.

10. UMMID initiative to tackle inherited genetic diseases of newborn babies

Minister of Science, Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Harsh Vardhan inaugurated five diagnostic centres under the program Unique Methods of Management and treatment of Inherited Disorders (UMMID) to tackle the menace of genetic diseases in newborns.

This initiative of the government will help the future generation in treating and preventing these diseases caused by genetic disorders.

11. Kotak AMC MD Nilesh Shah appointed AMFI Chairman

Nilesh Shah, Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Asset Management, has been appointed Chairman of the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) at its board meeting held in Mumbai on September 23.

12. Former India opener and Kanga veteran Madhav Apte dies at 86

The former India opener turned successful entrepreneur and Mumbai stalwart passed away, aged 86, in a Mumbai hospital after a cardiac arrest preceded by brief illness.
