  1. Peruvian President Appoints Mercedes Araoz Fernandez as New PM

Peru’s Second Vice President, Mercedes Araoz, an economist by training, was sworn as the new head of the Council of Ministers – known as the prime minister – formed by 13 members of the cabinet and headed to date by fellow economist Fernando Zavala.

Araoz, 56, took the oath of office before President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski at a ceremony held at the Government Palace in Lima, where five other new ministers were also sworn in and another 13 such appointments were confirmed by the president.

  1. Punit Goenka Re-appointed as President of Indian Broadcasting Foundation

Punit Goenka was re-appointed as the president of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) for a second consecutive term at its 18th Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Goenka is the MD and CEO of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited.

  1. Rajni Kant Mishra appointed SSB Chief

Rajni Kant Mishra will be the new chief of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). The decision was taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Mishra, a 1984 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer, will succeed Archana Ramasundaram, a 1980 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IPS officer, who is set to retire on September 30.

  1. International Yoga Festival starts in Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir governor N N Vohra has inaugurated the second International Yoga Festival and International Yoga Sports Championship 2017 in which about 300 people from across the world are participating.

The festival is being organized by the Yoga Society of Kashmir at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre, an official spokesman said here, adding that about 300 participants from various parts of India, Vietnam, Taiwan, Canada, Bulgaria, USA and Nepal are participating in the festival.

  1. Tripura, First State to set up Family Welfare Committees

Tripura was became the first state in the country to set up family welfare district committees to deal with the issue of fake and biased complaints by women against their husbands, in-laws and husband’s relatives, as per an apex court directive.

Tripura is the first state to have formed such committees, Tripura High Court Chief Justice T. Vaiphei said at the event.

  1. Rajnath Singh Launches Intelligence Wing of SSB and WARB App

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has operationalised the  intelligence wing of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) to penetrate deep into the matters along India’s vulnerable free border with Nepal and Bhutan.

The MHA had sanctioned a total of 650 combatised posts for the border guarding force, that earlier depended on the civil cadre for intelligence inputs and lacked a separate unit for it. ”

  1. Deendayal Upadhyay Shram Anna Sahayata Yojna Launched in Chattisgarh

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh launched the ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Shram Anna Sahayata Yojna’ under which nutritious meal will be provided to labourers at a humble price of Rupees five.

First Shram Anna Sahayata centre was launched in Chhattisgarh’s Telibandha area where nearly 1,000 labourers will be served meal daily between 8 am to 10 am.

Ola and the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation kicked off a campaign to promote responsible tourism, titled #GhoomoResponsibly.

Tourism and IT-BT Minister Priyank M. Kharge flagged off the initiative to promote and raise awareness about responsible tourism.

To promote offbeat travel, Shenaz Treasury, actress and travel vlogger, embarked on a road trip that spans across seven states, 14 days, and 21 lesser-known locations across the country with Ola Outstation, a service for inter-city travel.

  1. Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank looking to digitise 100 villages this fiscal

Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB) is planning to convert 100 villages under its jurisdiction as ‘digital villages’ for banking activities by the end of the current financial year.

KVGB is one among the few banks to take up the task of developing digital villages for banking activities soon after the demonetisation in November, according to S Ravindran, Chairman of the bank.

The bank has converted 25 villages under its jurisdiction as digital villages for banking activities till now.

  1. World Bank allocates $8 billion to China

According to the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC), an extra $1 billion is expected to be raised within a year as part of a planned $5 billion infrastructure investment fund for China’s Road and Belt program.

The fund raising plans are part of IFC’s so-called Managed Co-Lending Portfolio Program (MCPP) that seeks to raise more than $5 billion from investors by 2021, he said. A large part of the funds will be deployed for Belt and Road related projects,

Lewis Hamilton won the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, consolidating his lead for world championship title.

The Briton passed the chequered flag with a lead of 4.5 seconds ahead of Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo, while teammate Valtteri Bottas finished third.

  1. India’s Purnima wins pentathlon gold at Asian indoor meet

Purnima Hembram gave India a golden start in athletics as she finished at the top spot in the pentathlon event of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

The 24-year-old, who is the Asian championship bronze medalist in 2015 and 2017 and Asian Junior Champion in 2012, finished with 4,062 points to clinch the gold medal.

  1. Indian women’s hockey team defeats Belgium junior men’s team

The Indian women’s hockey team ended their Europe Tour on a high after getting the better of the Belgium junior men’s team 4-3 in a thrilling encounter.

For India, Gurjit Kaur (7th and 11th minutes) and captain Rani (13th and 33rd minutes) scored twice to give the visitors their first win of the tour.
