1. Leeladhar Jagoori received 2018 Vyas Samman

Hindi poet Leeladhar Jagoori received the KK Birla Foundation’s 2018 Vyas Samman on 30 October. He was awarded for his collection of poems, Jitne Log Utne Prem, his 12th anthology of poetry. The 28th Vyas Samman was presented to Jagoori by the renowned author Govind Mishra. He presented a new world of experience, language, narrative, and art. Jagoori’s poems are the ever-changing sounds of experiments and progress.

Leeladhar Jagoori:

Jagoori is a journalist, teacher, and poet of Hindi literature. He has written books, including Natak Jari Hai, Shankha Mukhi Shikharon Par, and Anubhav Ke Aakash Mein Chand. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award. In 2004, he was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour, for his contributions to Hindi literature.

2. G C Murmu was sworn in as first Lt Governor of UT JK

G C Murmu was sworn in as first Lt Governor of the union territory of J&K after the bifurcation of the state into two union territories of J&K and Ladakh. The oath of office to Murmu was administered by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Justice Gita Mittal at Raj Bhawan at the foothills of the Zaberwan range, J&K on 31 October.

G C Murmu:

G C Murmu, 59, is a 1985 batch IAS officer from the Gujarat cadre. He served as the principal secretary to Narendra Modi during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat. He gained his Master of Arts from Utkal University. He also holds an MBA degree from the University of Birmingham.

3. DRDOs AIP system is boosted with the operation of land based prototype

Indian military’s research and development agency, Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) programme to build a fuel cell-based Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system for Indian Naval Submarines, was conducted at the Naval Materials Research Laboratory in Ambernath, Maharashtra.

The programme provides great value to the nation and the Indian Navy in particular. The Operation of the land-based prototype engineered to the form-and-fit of a submarine was witnessed by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh.

4. Radha Krishna Mathur appointed as the first Lt. Governor of Ladakh

Ex-IAS Officer Radha Krishna Mathur took oath as the first Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh. The UT of Ladakh came into being on 30 October after the centre’s decision to end special status to J&K and split it into two union territories.

Radha Krishna Mathur:

Radha Krishna Mathur is a retired 1977-batch IAS officer, from the Tripura cadre. While retiring he serbed as the Chief Information Commissioner of India in 2018. Mr. Mathur, 65, served as a Defence Secretary at the centre before his appointment as Lieutenant Governor.

5. Alberto Fernandez won the Argentinas presidential elections

Alberto Fernandez and his running mate, former president Cristina Kirchner, won Argentina’s presidential elections 2019. They defeated President Mauricio Macri. Fernandez secured 48% of the vote, and the center-right incumbent Mauricio Macri secured around 40%.

Mauricio Macri is the first incumbent president in Argentine history to be defeated in his re-election bid. The elections were held in Argentina on 27 October 2019.

6. India and Germany sign MoUs

The All India Institute of Ayurveda under Ministry of AYUSH and FiZ-Frankfurter Innovationzentrum Biotechnologie Gmbh signed MoU in the event “German/Indian knowledge exchange regarding current developments in the health care sector”

7. Vyas Samman 2018 conferred on Leeladhar Jagoori

The 28th Vyas Samman for the year 2018 was conferred on noted Hindi poet and writer Leeladhar Jagoori for his poetry collection ‘Jitne Log Utne Prem’, at a function held in New Delhi. Jagoori was conferred the prestigious award for his poetry collection by renowned author and scholar Govind Mishra.

8. Nagaland govt launches Ex-gratia Scheme for Students

The state government of Nagaland has launched an ex-gratia scheme for students studying outside Nagaland, called ‘Nagaland Government Ex-gratia Scheme for Students Studying outside Nagaland’ (NGESSO). The scheme is the initiative of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

9. Twitter to ban all political advertising

Twitter is to ban all political advertising worldwide, saying that the reach of such messages “should be earned, not bought”. “While internet advertising is incredibly powerful and very effective for commercial advertisers, that power brings significant risks to politics,” company CEO Jack Dorsey tweeted.

10. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) observed on October 31

The official statement for Rashtriya Ekta Diwas by the Home Ministry of India cites that the National Unity Day “will provide an opportunity to re-affirm the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity, integrity and security of our country.”

11. Dr. Harsh Vardhan releases the 14th National Health Profile, 2019

Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare released the 14thNational Health Profile (NHP)2019 & its e-book (digital version) here. The NHP is prepared by the Central Bureau of Health Intelligence (CBHI) and covers comprehensive information on demographic, socio-economic health status, health finance indicators, health infrastructure and health of human resources in the country. This 14th edition of NHP is the continuation of the publication since 2005.

12. 3rd edition of Guwahati Intl Film Festival to be inaugurated

In Assam, the third edition of the Guwahati International Film Festival will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in the presence of noted filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar in Guwahati.

The week-long festival is being organised by Assam government-owned Jyoti Chitraban in association with the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute. AIR correspondent reports that 100 films from 65 countries will be screened during the 3rd edition of the Festival. The inaugural ceremony will have renowned Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Zanussi as the Chief Guest.

15. World Thrift day observed on October 31

World Thrift day observed on October 31 worldwide & in India it is observed on 30th october since 1948 as 31st october being the date of assassination of former PM Indira Gandhi. This day is devoted to the promotion of savings all over the world.

16. Ravinder settles for silver at U-23 world wrestling championship

At the Under-23 world wrestling championship in Budapest, Indian grappler Ravinder settled for a silver medal after going down to Kyrgyzstan’s Ulukbek for a 3-5 loss in the final in 61-kg . Ulukbek is the current Asian u-23 champion.
