1. World Animal Welfare Day is celebrated on 4 October

World Animal Welfare Day is celebrated on 4th October across the world. The day aims to raise awareness about improving the welfare standards of the animals across the world and also to celebrate the relationship between humankind and animal kingdom. It also aims to educate the world and full regard to their welfare.

2. Meity holds Conference to unveil 2020 RAISE

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) unveiled ‘RAISE 2020’, a Global Virtual Summit on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Electronics Niketan, New Delhi. The Mega Virtual Summit AI, RAISE 2020 is organized by the MEITY and NITI Aayog.

Highlights:

  • Responsible AI for Social Empowerment 2020 (RAISE 2020) will be held from 5-9 October 2020.
  • The summit will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

3. Who are the world’s highest-paid actresses of 2020 as per Forbes?

Sofia Vergara is the world’s highest-paid actress of 2020, with earnings of $43 million (?315 crore), as per Forbes. She’s followed by Angelina Jolie and Gal Gadot, with $35.5 million (?260 crore) and $31.5 million (?230 crore) earnings respectively. Meryl Streep and Melissa McCarthy are also in top 5. Notably, no Indian actress has featured on the list this year.

4. India’s Visnu Shivaraj Pandian wins gold in 10m air rifle event in 5th International Online Shooting Championship

India’s Visnu Shivaraj Pandian won the 10m air rifle event at the fifth edition of the International Online Shooting Championship.

The second place was won by world no. 27 Etienne Germond of France while Olympic quota winner Martin Strempfl of Austria, who had shot the best qualification score of 631.4, took the third place.

5. Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, 2020

The Nobel Prize for Medicine or Physiology has been jointly awarded to Harvey J Alter, Charles M Rice and Michael Houhgton. The scientists have been awarded for the discovery of Hepatitis C Virus.

The Nobel Prize for Medicine or Physiology is the first of six prizes that are to be announced in coming days. The other Noble Prizes to be announced are in the field of Physics, Chemistry, Literature, Peace and Economics.

7. Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2020 announced

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2020 was awarded jointly to Harvey J. Alter(America), Charles M. Rice (America) and Michael Houghton (Britain) for the discovery of the Hepatitis C virus. The head of the Nobel Committee, Thomas Perlmann has announced the winners in Stockholm.

8. Right Livelihood Award 2020 announced

The Right Livelihood Award Foundation has announced the four winners of the 2020 Right Livelihood Award 2020 which is also known as the alternative Nobel Prize in Stockholm.

The four activists Ales Bialiatski of Belarus, Nasrin Sotoudeh of Iran, Bryan Stevenson of the United States(US) and Lottie Cunningham Wren of Nicaragua shared the 2020 award for their contribution towards equality, democracy, justice and freedom.

World Space Week (WSW) is observed from October 4 to 10 every year to celebrate science and technology, and their contribution towards the betterment of the human condition.

10. Veteran Social activist Pushpa Bhave passes away

Veteran social activist, Prof Pushpa Bhave, also known as the Iron Lady of Mumbai, has passed away. She has been associated with the Rashtra Seva Dal and democratic movements since her student days. She was also an academician and an intellectual, who fought for the rights of common citizens. She had taken part in the Samyukta Maharashtra movement and the Goa liberation movement.

12. HDFC Bank’s Ravi Santhanam in Forbes list of World’s Most Influential CMOs

Ravi Santhanam, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), HDFC Bank has been recognised in the Forbes list of ’The World’s Most Influential CMOs’. Ranked at Number 39, he is the only CMO of an Indian company to be featured in the illustrious list which includes marketing heads of Apple, BMW, Lego, Adobe, Microsoft, P&G among others.

13. CM Manohar Lal Khattar launches Gram Darshan

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday digitally launched ‘Gram Darshan’, which will allow accessibility to data of development projects of 6,197 gram panchayats of the state. Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala was also present on this occasion.
