1. Spain to host COP25 Climate conference

The Spanish government confirmed that it made its bid to host the COP25 climate summit on the scheduled dates of 2-13 December 2019. The move comes after Chile withdrew its plans to host the summit due to deadly anti-government protests. The COP25 summit is aimed to bring out details of the implementation of the Paris Agreement climate pact.

The 25th annual Climate Change Conference will feature the 25th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 25) to the UNFCCC and the meetings of the UNFCCC subsidiary bodies.

2. Pasighat to host multilingual writers meet

East Siang HQ Pasighat of Arunachal Pradesh is to host Multilingual writers meet at the College of Horticulture & Forestry on 2nd and 3rd November 2019. The event is held for the first time ever.

The meet is being hosted by the Sahitya Akademi, in collaboration with Manipur-based Central Agricultural University, Imphal and the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS), Itanagar. This event is the second national-level event that is being hosted in Arunachal Pradesh after the recent Senior Women’s National Football Tournament (DIPRO).

3. World Vegan Day is celebrated on 1 November

World Vegan Day is observed on 1 November. The Day provides an opportunity to promote the benefits of a vegan diet and veganism in general. On the Day, vegan groups and practitioners organize workshops to highlight the importance of animal rights.

Vegan:

Donald Watson coined the term Vegan which was derived from the word Vegetarian in 1944. During that time, the differentiation was that Vegans did not consume dairy products. It then extended to eggs, and by 1951, veganism became a movement of people who did not partake in the exploitation of animals.

4. KVS Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Parv was inaugurated in India Gate

KVS- Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Parv was inaugurated at India Gate, Lawn No. 6, Maharashtra. It was inaugurated by Union Human Resource Development Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank inaugurated the four-day mega cultural event KVS Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Parv.

Aim:

The event aims to celebrate Unity in Diversity of the country and to reconnect and preserve the widespread emotional bonds among the people of the country at India Gate.

5. PM Modi to visit Thailand for ASEAN, East Asia and RCEP summits

PM Modi will embark a three-day visit to Thailand to participate in the ASEAN, East Asia and RCEP summits. In 2018, India had hosted the Indo-ASEAN summit commemorating its 25th anniversary, where all the 10 ASEAN leaders participated. Later the Delhi Declaration was adopted where the leaders agreed to further strengthen and deepen ASEAN-India strategic partnership.

6. Bamboo Tech Parks in J&K and Ladakh

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Council (NEC) will set up new Bamboo Technology parks in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Union Territories. The nodal agency CBTC (Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre) under the Ministry of NEC will implement the project.

7. Pavan Kapoor appointed as Ambassador to UAE

Pavan Kapoor, a 1990 batch Indian Foreign Service officer took charge as the new Ambassador to UAE. Ambassador Kapoor replaced Navdeep Singh Suri, who retired last month.

During his diplomatic career, Pavan Kapoor has served in different capacities at the Indian Missions in Moscow, Kyiv, London and Geneva. During his last posting, Mr Kapoor served as the Ambassador to Israel.

8.World’s first blockchain-based carbon trading exchange in Singapore

Singapore-based AirCarbon Pte launched the worlds’ first blockchain-based carbon trading exchange. This will allow airlines and other corporate buyers to buy as well sell tokens backed by carbon offset credits approved by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

The company is applying to the Monetary Authority of Singapore for a recognized market operator license and targets for the exchange to be fully operational in 2020, it said in a statement.

9. SREI-UBI jointly offers loans under co-lending programme

Srei Equipment Finance Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Srei Infrastructure Finance, has partnered with the United Bank of India (UBI) to offer loans to the MSME sector and retail customers under a co-lending arrangement.

The NBFC and the bank jointly organised Loan Utsavs across 20 cities. These loan melas were held many cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Ranchi, Patna, Vijaywada, Chandigarh, Lucknow and Bhopal.

10. Dhanlaxmi Bank announces resignation of MD & CEO

Ms T.Latha has submitted her resignation as MD & CEO and Director of Dhanlaxmi Bank, Vide her letter dated October 30, 2019 due to personal reasons. The same has been accepted by the Board w.e.f close of business hours on October 31, 2019, at its meeting held on October 31, 2019. The same has been intimated to RBI.

11. Nalco gets awards for CSR project ‘Nalco Ki Ladli’

National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has been honoured for excellence in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for its flagship project ‘Nalco Ki Ladli’ at the National CSR Awards ceremony.

Basant Kumar Thakur, Director (HR), NALCO received the Award from Union Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur at a glittering ceremony in New Delhi, a company statement said.

12. Bihar: Chhath festival celebrations begin with religious fervour

In Bihar, the four days long auspicious Chhath festival worship of the Sun god began with ritual of Nahay Khaya Devotees specially women across the state are taking holy dip in Ganga and other rivers, ponds and water bodies. After that they will take cooked Arwa rice and bottle gourd as prasad. Tomorrow Kharna will be observed which mark beginning of 36 hours long fast.

13. Satya Pal Malik to take oath as Goa governor on November 3

Satya Pal Malik would be sworn in as Goa Governor on November 3, a Raj Bhavan official said here. Malik, 73, former governor of Jammu and Kashmir, will replace Mridula Sinha, the first woman governor of Goa. Sinha will formally retire as governor on Friday. Her tenure had ended on August 31 this year.

14. CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta passes away

Veteran CPI leader and former MP Gurudas Dasgupta died in Kolkata following a prolonged illness, party sources said. He was 83. Dasgupta is survived by his wife and daughter.
