1. HDFC Bank’s Aditya Puri named in world’s 30 Best CEOs list

HDFC Bank Managing Director Aditya Puri’s name has featured in the list of world’s 30 best chief executive officers (CEO), published by American financial magazine Barron’s. Puri, 66, has transformed HDFC Bank from a start-up into one of the world’s highest-quality banks, generating eye-popping returns by maintaining lending standards while expanding beyond corporate loans into a full-service retail bank.

2. Pawan Hans to start ‘Dilli Darshan’ chopper rides at Rs 2,500

National chopper operator Pawan Hans is set to launch its “Delhi Darshan” rides from next month with a 10-minute sortie costing Rs 2,499 per person. Besides, the state-owned aviation firm will also offer a 20-minute helicopter ride for Rs 4,999. The companys Chairman and Managing Director, B P Sharma, had at the inauguration of its first heliport in north Delhi’s Rohini area announced the roll out of these services from April 1.

3. Osmania University to host 105th Indian Science Congress

Osmania University will host the 105th edition of the Indian Science Congress during January 3-7, 2018. Disclosing this to newspersons at a press conference held, Achyuta Samanta, General President of the Indian Science Congress Association, (ISCA) and founder of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar, said the conference will be on the theme ‘Science and Technology – Reaching the Unreached’.

4. Union Government to launch Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana

• “Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana”, a ‘Scheme for providing Physical Aids and Assisted-living Devices for Senior citizens belonging to BPL category’ will be launched in District Nellore, Andhra Pradesh on 1st April, 2017.
• The Physical Aids and Assisted-living Devices for Senior citizens will be distributed in Camp mode and the Scheme will be implemented through the sole implementing agency, ‘Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO)’, (a PSU under M/o SJ&E), which will undertake one year free maintenance of the aids & assisted living devices.
• The devices will help the Senior Citizens to overcome their age related physical impairment and to lead a dignified and productive life with minimal dependence on care givers or other members of the family.

5. India becomes third largest aviation market in domestic traffic

India has become the third largest aviation market in terms of domestic passenger traffic, beating Japan. India’s domestic air passenger traffic stood at 100 million in 2016 and was behind only the US (719 million) and China (436 million), Sydney-based aviation think-tank Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) said in its latest report. India acquired the third spot globally by unseating Japan, which flew 97 million domestic passengers in 2016.

6. Indian Navy fires surface-to-air missile from INS Vikramaditya

In a boost to India’s martime prowess, the Navy has successfully conducted the maiden trial firing of newly installed surface-to-air Barak missile system from its aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya. During the firing carried out in the Arabian Sea, the missile was fired against a live low flying high speed target. The target was successfully engaged and destroyed.

7. Government to make Aadhaar must for driving license

In a move to check multiple driving licenses under one name, the Centre will ask states to make Aadhaar identification necessary for a new licence as well as for those seeking renewal. This is expected to prevent the issuance of multiple licences, means adopted to beat the suspension of licence for traffic, criminal offences or for a fake identity. The Aadhaar number’s biometrics details will help prevent such practices. The new regime is expected to kick off from October this year.

8. Bangladesh celebrates 46th Independence Day

The people of Bangladesh celebrated the 46th Independence and National Day. On Mar 26, 1971, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared Bangladesh’s independence following the crackdown on unarmed Bangalees on the midnight of March 25 by the Pakistan occupation army. After the nine-month War of Liberation with the supreme sacrifices of the millions of people, the people of the country achieved its cherished independence on December 16, 1971.

9. RBI allows exchange of Rs 4,500 in old notes in Nepal

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will allow an exchange of up to Rs 4,500 in banned Indian currency notes to each Nepali national, a visiting team of the Indian central bank in Kathmandu hinted. The Indian proposal has sent waves of nervousness among the Nepali public as India had earlier allowed Nepali citizens to possess up to Indian Rs 25,000 each.

An RBI team led by Dipali Pant Joshi, executive director, RBI, held talks with a Nepali team, led by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Deputy Governor Chintamani Siwakoti, in Kathmandu and offered to provide exchange facilities up to INR 4,500 in banned Indian currency notes and gave one week’s window to complete the exchange formalities.

10. Vettel wins Australian Grand Prix

Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel won the Australian Grand Prix for Ferrari to dash Mercedes’ hopes of extending their dominance into a fourth successive season of Formula One. The German cruised to his 43rd race victory with a 9.9 second gap to Mercedes’ runner-up Lewis Hamilton, with the Briton’s new team mate, Valtteri Bottas, finishing third.

11. India wins archery team gold at Asia Cup

The Indian men’s compound archery team overcame Iran in a nail-biting encounter to win gold in the 2017 Asia Cup Tournament Stage 1, which concluded at Bangkok. The Indian trio of Aman Saini, Shivansh Awasthi and Robert Singh shot 231 against Iran’s 230 to win the title. The Iranian trio reduced the deficit to just one point with a total of 171 against India’s 172 in the third.
