  1. Trivendra Singh Rawat to be next Uttarakhand Chief Minister

Former state BJP chief Trivendra Singh Rawat will be sworn in as the new chief minister of Uttarakhand. He met Uttarakhand Governor KK Paul, claims support of 57 MLAs to form government.The BJP won 57 of the hill state’s 70-member state assembly to wrest power from the Congress, which managed to win only 11.

  1. Amazon’s India head Amit Agarwal promoted as Senior VP

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon has promoted the online retailer’s India head Amit Agarwal as senior vice-president in a global role, as the company looks to dominate the e-commerce market in the country. Agarwal, who led Amazon’s assault in India over the past three years within catching distance of Flipkart, will continue to lead the company’s operations in India as the country head.

  1. Parliamentary Panel proposes merger between BSNL and MTNL

A Parliamentary panel has suggested the merger of state-run telecom firms BSNL and MTNL for their long-term survival. The Committee on Petitions, chaired by BJP MP Bhagat Singh Koshyari. The Committee was formed to look into representation received by BJP MP Arvind Sawant regarding improvement in services provided by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).

  1. National Physical Laboratory(NPL)- CSIR dedicates the first “Pristine air-quality monitoring station at Palampur”
  • National Physical Laboratory (NPL) has established an atmospheric monitoring station in the campus of Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT) at Palampur (H.P.) at an altitude of 1391 m for generating the base data for atmospheric trace species & properties to serve as reference for comparison of polluted atmosphere in India.
  • At this station, NPL has installed state of art air monitoring system, greenhouse gas measurement system and Raman Lidar. A number of parameters like CO, NO, NO2, NH3, SO2, O3, PM, HC & BC besides CO2 & CH4 are being currently monitored at this station which is also equipped with weather station (AWS) for measurement of weather parameters.
  1. President of India to Inaugurate an International Conference on “Universities of The Future”

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee will visit Haryana (Sonipat) on March 18, 2017 where he will inaugurate a three-day international conference on the theme of Universities of the Future: Knowledge, Innovation and Responsibility” at O. P. Jindal Global University (JGU).  The Conference seeks to examine the future of the Indian universities in the twenty first century and will have thirteen thematic panels.

  1. First Airbus Training Centre in Asia to be set up in New Delhi

Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju has performed the ground-breaking for Asia’s first greenfield training facility being set up by the European aviation major Airbus. The Airbus India Training Centre (AITC) will support India’s growing need for Airbus aircraft pilots and maintenance engineers. India’s rapidly growing passenger aircraft fleet must be matched by adequate availability of skilled pilots and maintenance engineers.

  1. Inauguration of 3 Day International Buddhist Conference at Rajgir

The three days“International Buddhist Conference” organized by Ministry of Culture and Nava NalandaMahaviahra,Deemed University was inaugurated by His Holiness TheDalai Lama andDr.Mahesh Sharma,Minister of Culture and Tourism at Rajgir International Buddhist Conference, Bihar. Shri N.K. Sinha,Secretary M/o Culture and Shri M.L. Shrivastava, Vice-Chancellor, Nava NalandaMahaviahraDeemed University were present on the occasion.It was followed by the chanting of Mangala Path(Holy Sutra) by the Monks.

  1. Reliance Communications gets SEBI nod for merger with Aircel

Reliance Communications has said it has received approvals from markets regulator SEBI and the stock exchanges for proposed demerger of its wireless business into Aircel Ltd. Reliance Communications has received approval of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), BSE and NSE for the proposed scheme of arrangement for demerger of the wireless division of the company into Aircel Ltd and Dishnet Wireless Ltd.

  1. Queen Elizabeth II gives royal assent to Brexit bill

Queen Elizabeth II has given Royal Assent to the government’s European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill, clearing the way for Prime Minister Theresa May to start the official process to bring the UK out of the European Union. The Queen signed the Bill into law after it was approved in the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The Royal Assent was presented to both Houses by their speakers and is now an Act of Parliament.

  1. Saudi Arabia, China sign deals worth Rs.4 lakh crore
  • Saudi Arabia’s King Salman oversaw the signing of deals worth as much as $65 billion on the first day of a visit to Beijing, as the world’s largest oil exporter looks to cement ties with the world’s second-largest economy.
  • The deals included a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between giant state oil firm Saudi Aramco [IPO-ARMO.SE] and China North Industries Group Corp (Norinco), to look into building refining and chemical plants in China.
  • Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC) and Sinopec, which already jointly run a chemical complex in Tinajin, also agreed to develop petrochemical projects in both China and Saudi Arabia.
