1. Mumbai traffic worst among world’s 403 cities, Delhi ranks 4th: Study

Mumbai had the worst traffic congestion in 2018, an analysis of 403 cities across 56 countries on six continents in ‘Traffic Index-2018’, compiled by location technology specialist TomTom, has found. Mumbai was followed by Colombia’s Bogota, Peru’s Lima and Delhi in traffic congestion. It added that the best time to drive in Mumbai was between 2 AM to 5 AM.

2. Ajeya Kallam appointed principal advisor to Andhra CM

Former Chief Secretary Ajeya Kallam was on Tuesday appointed as the principal advisor to Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Kallam will be in the position for 3 years, with a monthly salary of ₹2.5 lakh, according to an order. Notably, Kallam retired as Chief Secretary in 2017, when N Chandrababu Naidu was Andhra CM.`

3. India-born Pramila 1st S Asian American woman to preside over House

Democratic lawmaker Pramila Jayapal has become the first South Asian American woman to preside over the House of Representatives. “Beyond proud to serve in the most diverse Congress in our nation’s history and to hold the gavel today,” she tweeted. Born in Chennai, 53-year-old Pramila went to pursue her studies in the US when she was 16 years old.

4. Tripura to host 10th National Science Film Festival of India in 2020

Tripura to host 10th National Science Film Festival of India in 2020. The 10th National Science Film Festival of India (NSFFI) organized in Tripura in January and February 2020. The NSF debuted in Chennai eight years ago in 2011.

It covered almost all regions of the country since then including Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata, Bangalore, Lucknow, Mumbai, Guwahati and Mohali. This the second time the show will be held in a North Eastern city

Flipkart co-founder joins Ujjivan Small Finance Bank as Director. Ujjivan Small Finance Bank appointed Flipkart founder Sachin Bansal as its independent director. This is the second big futuristic move by Ujjivan management after it roped in HDFC Bank’s digital banking head Nitin Chugh as its next chief executive.

Yoga Mahotsava was organized in New Delhi. A Two-day Yoga Mahotsava, a Curtain Raiser for International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2019 was organized in New Delhi. It was inaugurated by the Vice-Chairman, NITI AYOG Rajeev Kumar.

8. VP Sivakolundhu elected as Puducherry Assembly Speaker

VP Sivakolundhu elected as Puducherry Assembly Speaker. Deputy Speaker VP Sivakolundhu was elected as the new Speaker of the Puducherry Assembly. The post fell vacant after Congress’ V Vaithilingam stepped down on March 21 to contest the Lok Sabha election from the lone Union Territory seat of Puducherry, which he won with a margin of 1,96,802 votes against his nearest rival K Narayanasamy of All India NR Congress.

9. High Court declared all animals in Haryana to be ‘legal persons’

High Court declared all animals in Haryana to be legal persons. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued the status of “legal person or entity” to all animals in Haryana, granting them the “corresponding rights, duties and liabilities of a living person”. The verdict comes nearly a year after Uttarakhand High Court passed a similar order “to protect and promote greater welfare of animals”.

10. Delhi government plans free rides for women in metro and buses

Delhi government plans free rides for women in metro and buses. Delhi government has announced its plan to subsidize travel in public transport for women commuters in the Capital. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Aim:

The government intends to allow women to travel for free on metro trains and State-run buses by the month of August-September. The new scheme, which is to be implemented, is to encourage the use of public transport, make it safer and to promote the participation of more women in the city’s workforce currently dominated by their male counterparts.

11. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra appointed Director General of IMD

Renowned scientist, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra is appointed as Director-General the India Meteorological Department (IMD). His appointment order was issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.

The 54-year-old cyclone warning specialist is Scientist ‘G’ (grade) in IMD. Prior to joining IMD, he worked at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratory in Chandipur.

12. Kharga Prahar: Army training exercise concludes

The “Kharga Prahar”, a major training exercise conducted by the Indian Army in Punjab from 27 May 2019 concluded on 4 June 2019. Kharga Prahar exercise was undertaken in plains of Punjab by various units and formations of Army’s Kharga Corps.

The exercise was successful in validating latest operational concepts which are designed to deliver a swift punitive blow to India’s adversary.

13 . Gianni Infantino is re-elected as FIFA President until 2023

The 69th FIFA Congress convened today in Paris and, by acclamation, re-elected Gianni Infantino as the President of FIFA until 2023.

The ninth president in the history of the organisation was first elected at an Extraordinary Congress in February 2016 and now starts his first full four-year term of office after running unopposed and being elected by acclamation by FIFA’s 211 member associations.
