  1. Indian Oil bags WPC Excellence Award

Leading oil marketing company Indian Oil has bagged the WPC Excellence Award for its innovative and ground-breaking INDMAX technology at 22nd edition of the World Petroleum Congress in Istanbul. Sanjiv Singh, Chairman, IndianOil and SSV Ramakumar, Director (R&D) received the award from Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, former Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Energy and Industry, Qatar.

  1. J&K bags best award in adventure tourism destination

The J&K Tourism Department has received the award  in the category of ‘Best Adventure Tourism Destination and Eco-Tourism Destination’ at a 3-Day event organized by Indian International Travel Mart, Chennai Deputy Director Tourism (Publicity) Peerzada Zahoor who was representing the J&K State received the award. During the Travel Mart, J&K stall which was beautifully decorated attracted huge visitors mostly locals and travel agents.

  1. National Bamboo Mission renamed as National Agro-Forestry & Bamboo Mission (NABM)

National Bamboo Mission renamed as National Agro-Forestry & Bamboo Mission (NABM) is being implemented as per the set objectives and targets of the Mission.

Under the Mission, 108 nos. of markets (Bamboo wholesale & retail markets near villages, etc.) have been established for providing marketing avenues to bamboo farmers for their raw bamboo as well as finished products.  Besides, efforts are being made to popularize bamboo products through participation in domestic/national/international trade fairs.

  1. MoU Signed Between Department of Defence Production and GSL

Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), a miniratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the financial year 2017-18.

The annual MoU was signed between Secretary (Defence Production) Shri Ashok Kumar Gupta on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), GSL Rear Adm (Retd) Shekhar Mital.

This year’s MoU target for ‘Revenue from Operations’ has been set at     ₹ 1150 crore, which is 43 percent higher than the financial year 2016-17 target of ₹ 800 crore.

  1. Mou Signed between Department of Defence Production and HSL

Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), a Schedule ‘B’ Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the administrative control of Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the financial year 2017-18 with the Ministry.

The MoU, outlines targets on various performance parameters for the company during the year. The revenue from operations has been targeted at Rs 600 Crore.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Secretary (Defence Production) Shri Ashok Kumar Gupta on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) Rear Adm (Retd) VK Saxena.

The company planned to spend ₹ 50 crore as CAPEX for further strengthening the infrastructure facilities including improving the design capabilities for construction of P-17A ships.

As part of ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government, GRSE has set a target to develop Indigenous Capability and Infrastructure for Assembly, Test & Trial of Marine Diesel Engines, at its Engine Plant at Ranchi, during the current financial year.

  1. Shala Siddhi Prohatsan Yojana started in 25,000 MP schools

‘Hamari Shala Kaisi Ho’ and ‘Shala Siddhi Karyakram’ are being implemented by the School Education department in Government schools in Madhya Pradesh.

The State Education Centre has started Shala Siddhi Prohatsan Yojana to encourage best works under this programme. The Shala Siddhi Prohatsan Yojana has been started in 25,000 schools of the State till date.

A time table has been fixed for the award process. According to the time table, selection committees at block level will be formed by the district core committees till July 22.

  1. Maha approves revised policy of scheme aimed to improve girl child ratio

The Maharashtra government approved a revised policy of the ‘Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree’ scheme, according to which families who have a yearly income of upto Rs 7.5 lakh will be benefited.

The scheme, launched by the state government on April 1, 2016 in place of ‘Sukanya’ scheme, is aimed at improving the skewed girl child ratio, prevent sex determination and female foeticide, and support female education.

  1. UIDAI Launches mAadhaar app

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched the mAadhaar app, a digital tool that allows holders of Aadhaar numbers to carry their in their smartphones.

The app syncs all information available on your Aadhaar, such as demographic details, name, date of birth, gender, postal address and photograph, after you link your Aadhaar with the app.

For safety and security reasons, the mAadhaar app uses a two-layer authentication. The app has a Google Authenticator-like one-time password generation tool within the app for this purpose.

  1. MUDRA loan to small traders: Rs. 137449 crore sanctioned in FY 2015-16; Rs. 180528 crore sanctioned in FY 2016-17

Loans under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) Scheme have been extended by banks, Non Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) and Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs) to small/micro business enterprises since April 08th 2015 with the objective of ‘Funding the unfunded’ through institutional finance by providing loans upto 10 lakh for manufacturing, processing, trading, services and activities allied to agriculture.

  1. RBI has set up an Enforcement Department (EFD)

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has informed that they have set up an Enforcement Department (EFD). EFD would serve as a centralised department to speed up regulatory compliance.

EFD has been set up to separate those who oversee the possible rule breaches and those who decide on punitive actions so that enforcement process operates fairly and is evidence based.

The EFD has become functional with effect from April 03, 2017. The EFD has been entrusted with the responsibility of enforcement action on commercial banks.

  1. UAE Minister of State for Tolerance ‘most powerful Arab woman in government’

The Minister of State for Tolerance has topped a poll of the most powerful Arab women in government this year, according to Forbes Middle East.

Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi was followed by two women from Egypt – Sahar Nasr, the country’s minister of investment and international cooperation, and Ghada Wali, the minister of social solidarity.

Forbes has also released a list of the top 100 most powerful Arab businesswomen for 2017, and the UAE represents the highest number of women, with 18, followed by Egypt, with 16.

  1. Neel Joshi, Ananya Dabke win Dutch Open

Mumbai youngsters Neel Joshi and Ananya Dabke bagged the under-15 boys and girls titles, respectively, in the Dutch Open Junior Squash Championships, in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Cologne Cup winner Joshi, who earned a first round bye, warmed up with straight sets wins over Belgium’s Bjarne Schaillee, Yaseen Elsebaie of Egypt and compatriot Shreeman Raghavan.

15. Manudev wins National Masters snooker title

Karnataka’s Manudev got the better of fancied Alok Kumar of PSPB by four frames to one in the final to win the title in the first National Masters snooker tournament.

Kumar, a former national men’s champion, had been in fine form coming into the summit clash, but found Manudev a tough proposition.

16. French singer Barbara Weldens dies

An up-and-coming French singer, Barbara Weldens, has collapsed and died in the middle of a concert at a festival.

Weldens, 35, had been on stage in a church in the picturesque village of Goudron, in the Lot region of the south-west, when she suffered an apparent cardiac arrest.

She had released her first album this year and had won a young talent award.
