1. MyGov Corona Helpdesk received CogX 2020 award

Artificial Intelligence-enabled MyGov Corona Helpdesk received two awards at the CogX 2020 is held annually in London, the UK. CogX is a prestigious Global Leadership Summit and Festival of AI & Emerging Technology. MyGov Corona was awarded under the categories ‘Best Innovation for Covid-19 – Society’ and ‘People’s Choice Covid-19 Overall Winner’.

2. RRI introduces QKDSim toolkit to ensure safety in secure quantum communication platforms

Researchers from Raman Research Institute (RRI), an autonomous institute of the Department of Science & Technology (DST), has launched Quantum Key Distribution or QKD. The qkdSim simulation toolkit aims to ensure safety in secure quantum communication platforms.

3. Indian oil, NTPC Ltd, and SDMC signed MoU for Waste to Energy plant in Delhi

A Memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Waste to Energy plant at Okhla, Delhi, between Indian Oil, NTPC Ltd and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on 30 June 2020.

Under the MoU, IndianOil, SDMC, and NTPC will jointly develop a demonstration Waste-to-energy Plant at Okhla landfill site in Delhi, using Gasification technology.

4. 1st July: National Doctor’s Day

5. World’s first-ever Online B.Sc. Degree in Programming and Data Science launched by IIT Madras

The World’s first-ever Online B.Sc. Degree in Programming and Data Science is prepared and to be offered by the Indian Institute of Technology(IIIT) Madras. The Online Course was launched through a virtual event by the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on 30th June 2020.

6. First Edition of ‘Matsya Sampada’ launched by Union Minister

The first edition of Fisheries and Aquaculture Newsletter was launched. The name of the newsletter is ‘Matsya Sampada’. The newsletter was launched by the Union Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Giriraj Singh.

From the first quarter of 2020-21, newsletter Matsya Sampada will be published on a quarterly basis. The operational guidelines for the PMMSY scheme have also been published in the first edition of the newsletter.

7. Pakistan Army appoints Nigar Johar as 1st female Lieutenant General

Major General Nigar Johar has become the first female officer to be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in Pakistan Army. “The officer has been appointed as first female Surgeon General of Pakistan Army,” the media wing of Pakistan Army tweeted. In 2017, she became the third female officer in Pakistan Army to hold the rank of Major General.

8. RBI to conduct fresh OMO Operations for Government Securities

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced fresh Open Market Operations (OMO) for the sale and purchase of Government Securities. The RBI will conduct the sale and purchase of government securities on July 2, 2020 of Rs 10,000 crore each.

9. HDFC Bank launches ‘e-Kisaan Dhan’ app for farmers

HDFC Bank announced the launch of ‘e-Kisaan Dhan’ app for farmers allover India. Through this app the farmers will be able to access a bouquet of services, both banking and agriculture, through their mobile phones.

The app is a one stop solution for all the information needed on agriculture practices by the farmers.

10. Salma Lakhani named lieutenant-governor of Alberta, first Muslim in Canadian history to hold role

The Liberal government has named Salma Lakhani as next lieutenant-governor of Alberta, making her the first-ever Muslim to hold the ceremonial position in Canadian history.

Lakhani has lived in Edmonton for more than 40 years, after her family was expelled from her native Uganda in 1972.
