1. SBI joins JPMorgan’s blockchain payments network

State Bank of India has tied up with JPMorgan to use the US bank’s blockchain technology to speed up overseas transactions. The tie-up is expected to reduce SBI customers’ transaction costs and time taken for payments. SBI has joined Liink, a new blockchain-based interbank data network developed by JPMorgan.

2. Russian supermodel Vodianova is new UN goodwill ambassador

Russian supermodel and philanthropist Natalia Vodianova has become a United Nations goodwill ambassador, to promote the sexual and reproductive rights of women and girls and tackle stigmas surrounding their bodies.

AU Small Finance Bank has named Sharad Goklani as its new President & CTO. He was earlier associated with Equitas Small Finance Bank as its EVP & Chief Technology Officer. As a part of his new appointment, Goklani will be based in Jaipur Rajasthan.

5. PM Narendra Modi to be honoured with CERAWeek global energy and environment leadership award

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be honoured with the CERAWeek global energy and environment leadership award next week in recognition of his commitment to sustainability in the energy and the environment.

The CERAWeek by IHS Markit, which is the world’s preeminent energy conference, will be held virtually between March 1-5, 2021.

6. Ministry of Sports restores recognition of Gymnastics Federation of India

The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has decided to restore recognition of the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) as a National Sports Federation (NSF).

The Sports Ministry in a letter to the GFI president stated that the elections of two office bearers -Sudhir Mittal as President and Kaushik Bidiwala as Treasurer for the term 2019- 2023 have been taken on record of the Ministry.

7. PM Modi to inaugurate 2nd Maritime India Summit-2021 on March 2

Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the 2nd Maritime India Summit which will be held in a virtual mode on March 2, 2021. The event will be organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and waterways jointly with EY as the knowledge partner and FICCI as the Industrial Partner.

8. ISRO launches Brazil’s Amazonia-1 and 18 other satellites

The Indian Space Research Organisation on February 28, 2021, launched Polar Satellites Launch Vehicle- PSLV C51 carrying Amazonia-1 satellite of Brazil and 18 other satellites of USA and India from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh at 10.24 am.

9. MP approved Penal Law (Madhya Pradesh Amendment) Bill, 2021

Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has approved the “Penal Law (Madhya Pradesh Amendment) Bill, 2021” on February 26, 2021. This bill was approved in order to give life imprisonment to food adulterers in states.

In the month of December 2019, an awareness rally organised in Bhopal to fight against the adulteration. The rally witnessed the participation of people from all age groups. It was held from Roshanpura to Lal Parade in Bhopal.

10. Karnataka: Namma Cargo services Launched

The Chief Minister of Karnataka, B.S. Yediyurappa, launched the ‘Namma Cargo’ services on February 26, 2021. At this place, the State road transport corporations will transport the parcels so as to generate more revenue, except for the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).
